There are plenty of practical questions that come with charitable giving. How much? Where? When? What should we give?

Before getting to those, there’s another question worth spending some time on: Why do we give in the first place?

For me, the biblical idea of stewardship is helpful here. What we have has been entrusted to us, and generosity is one way we can respond with gratitude and care for others.

Giving can develop its own rhythm over time. We support the same organizations, renew the same commitments, and continue patterns that may have been in place for years.

Every so often, it’s worth revisiting those choices.
Are the organizations you support still doing work you care deeply about? Has a new need become important to you? Do you understand how your gifts are being used?

You may come away from that review wanting to change nothing. That’s fine. The point is simply to make sure your giving still reflects the reasons you chose to give in the first place.

Generosity is bigger than a check.

Sometimes it looks like making yourself available. Encouraging someone in a hard season. Mentoring a younger family member. Opening your home. Creating an opportunity for someone who wouldn't have gotten one otherwise.

We tend to reduce generosity to financial transactions. It's really a posture — one that shapes how we live, lead, and show up for the people around us.

The deepest impact rarely comes from the people who simply accumulated the most. It comes from the ones who stayed open-handed with everything they had.
