Magic in Our Midst is a free magical event for children and their families to meet the animals of the woods. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday evening, November 7 at Island Park in Alpena. Island Park is located at the corner of US 23 and Long Rapids Road. Guided tours for groups will consist of up to eight people and will occur every ten minutes.
At the start of the walk, participants will be greeted by the Spirit of the Island, Sah-gon-ah-ka-to. Groups will be led by a wizard guide, and participants will follow a lighted trail as animal figures come alive through pre-recorded voices. After walking the trail, for about 30 minutes, groups will be invited to stop at the Northland Credit Union trailer in Duck Park for a warm cup of hot chocolate and a box of animal crackers. Children will receive a small flashlight they can use throughout the program.
This is a free event sponsored by the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary Board, however registration is required. To register your family or your group, and to schedule your tour time, please call 989-342-8167. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
We hope you can join us for Magic in Our Midst.
