Peoples & Co. Private Wealth Stewardship

Peoples & Co. Private Wealth Stewardship Our mission is to become “thinking partners” to our clients, providing authentic, uncommon, and wisdom-based multi-generational financial guidance.

At Peoples & Co. Private Wealth Stewardship, we understand the principles of financial stewardship and consistently provide our clients with a sustainable guidance that reflects the careful and responsible management of family’s most precious assets. Successful individuals and families recognize long term financial success, and its preservation as a matter of behavior, not balance sheets, and that

financial capital is merely a tool to manifest established personal and family values. We help to make this connection of reality. The services we provide extend well-beyond portfolio design and include a deep analysis into the complex matter of risk, important discussions about wealth transfer, estate planning, philanthropy, and the ongoing recognition of liquidity needs, clear reporting, and the confidential understanding that sometimes circumstances change. We believe in three abiding principles:
• Treasure principle: We are only temporary stewards of our assets.
• Unity principle: Successful financial planning requires total agreement among the family members.
• Wisdom principle: Pass along wisdom before passing along wealth. If our philosophy rings true to your financial planning needs, please contact us to learn more about how you can benefit from our approach. Last week, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled 6-3 to strike down most tariffs that had been implemented over the past year under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The Court determined that the law is meant for true national emergencies - not broad trade policy actions.

So what does this mean for markets and the economy?

Here are a few key takeaways:

➡️ Roughly $175 billion in tariff revenue was collected under IEEPA, and lower courts will now decide whether refunds are required.
➡️ Tariffs are not going away - the administration still has other tools available, including Trade Act of 1974 provisions like Section 122 and Section 301.
➡️ Businesses and global trade partners are navigating continued uncertainty, which could influence investment decisions and negotiations.
➡️ In the short term, tariff headlines may create market volatility, but long-term market performance continues to be driven by fundamentals, currently supported by strong corporate earnings growth.

At Peoples & Co., we’re closely monitoring these developments and what they could mean for investors.

All three major U.S. indices ended January in positive territory, despite volatility driven by geopolitical tensions and uncertainty around the Fed. International Stocks outperformed, with developed and emerging markets rising amid concerns about U.S. trade and foreign policy.

Earnings were a bright spot, with corporate results exceeding expectations and signaling resilient fundamentals. But weak job growth and declining consumer confidence highlighted ongoing economic challenges.

Last week, Patricia Peoples, CFP®, CKA®, CLU®, ChFC®, QPFC and Grace Pasquale had the opportunity to attend Commonwealth Financial Network’s 2026 Women’s Summit in beautiful Ojai, California. 🌄

It was an incredible experience connecting with so many thoughtful, driven professional women while learning from impactful speakers and sharing meaningful conversations.

Ojai was the perfect setting for both growth and connection - Pat and Grace even squeezed in horseback riding and a boot camp workout with fellow attendees, which made the experience even more memorable.

One of Grace's favorite sessions was “Long-Term Care Planning Considerations for Every Woman in Your Book of Business: Single, Married, Divorced, and More” presented by Karysa Swackenberg, MBA, CLTC® of Ash Brokerage. Grace loved how practical the discussion was, highlighting the unique planning considerations women face at every life stage and reinforcing how important it is to proactively address long-term care in a thoughtful, personalized way.

Patricia’s favorite session was “Hold the Reins, Share the Ride: Trust as a Succession Strategy” by Lisa Cregan. The session stood out for its clear, strategic approach to building trust-based succession plans and the reminder that strong relationships are just as important as strong structures when planning for the future.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, reflect, and return home inspired - ready to continue serving our clients with fresh perspective and renewed energy.

As we approach the Fed's next meeting at the end of January, what do we expect the central bank to do about rates?

In this month's Market Observatory episode, Sam Millette and Chris Fasciano from Commonwealth Financial Network talk about the likely path ahead, the tug-of-war between headlines and fundamentals, and how a pause on rates may shift investor focus to corporate earnings, which continue to beat expectations.

December was a mixed month for markets. The Nasdaq ended the month down slightly, while the S&P 500 and Dow Jones saw modest gains. Overall, markets had a strong 2025, with all three major U.S. indices up between 15 and 21 percent for the year. The economy also continued to expand throughout 2025, as shown by the 4.3 percent annualized GDP growth rate in Q3. Consumer spending has remained resilient and helped power the economy throughout the year.
