Access to care matters, and sometimes something as simple as getting to an appointment can become a major barrier to recovery.

That’s why the Burke & Herbert Bank Foundation recently contributed $5,000 to support the Stroke Navigator Program at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. The program helps stroke patients navigate appointments, stay engaged in their rehabilitation, and, for qualifying patients, access transportation to and from appointments throughout Baltimore City.

Robert Hazel of Burke & Herbert Bank had the opportunity to present the contribution and see this work firsthand, touring the Stroke Rehabilitation Department, participating in several rehabilitation exercises, and spending time with Dr. Preeti Raghavan, Director of Recovery & Rehabilitation; Steve Bonwit, Stroke Navigator; Dr. Peiting Lien, Clinical Resource Analyst; and Ken Johnson, Director of Ambulatory Rehabilitation Therapy.

We’re proud to support programs that identify real needs in our communities and find practical ways to help people receive the care and resources they need.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our team came together for the annual Walk to Bust Cancer in Alexandria.

The walk supports Breast Cancer Collective, a local organization helping women access breast cancer screenings and treatment.
