Cigna is leaving the individual marketplace in 27. They join Aetna who left in 26. When the administration chose not to keep the 2025 expanded subsidies insurers began to back out of Obamacare. Clearly overhaul is needed but the Trump administration only wants to kill the program.

Here is a simple explanation of why health insurance is so expensive. It isn't Obamacare that causes premiums to go up. There's plenty wrong with Obamacare but it really was only designed to ameliorate the worst abuses of private health insurance. To live up to its name "The Affordable Care Act," It will take a complete overhaul to have an impact on health expenses.

While the Senate dithers and fails to advance a bill I'm afraid they will run out he clock and pass nothing. I wish they would compromise on a one year extension that includes some abortion restrictions on late term abortions and some fraud protections. They however will need 68 yea votes to make it veto proof.

With competing priorities it doesn't look like the enhanced healthcare tax subsidies will be extended but will expire at the end of this year. The Senate Democrat's bill calling for a three year extension doesn't have any Republican support and the House leadership isn't inclined to bring it up to a vote.
