Is it best to use your insurance for generic prescriptions? Not always..believe it or not sometimes the price without insurance is cheaper. A lot of insurance companies charge a copay for generics and it is the same no matter what the medication. Lets say you take Metformin and Walmart Pharmacy charges $4 for a 30 day supply but your insurance has a $10 copy for generic medication. This happens quite often and sometimes it's best to ask what the cost of your generic medication is with or without insurance.
