July is National Independent Living Month, and it's a good time to ask a simple question: does your home actually work for you?
Most falls happen because of a loose rug, a dim hallway, or a step that's just a little too high. The good news is that small fixes go a long way: grab bars in the bathroom, better lighting on stairs, and removing clutter from walkways, for example.
This is also where your benefits can actually do some work. Many Medicare Advantage plans include an OTC allowance that covers things like grab bars, bathroom safety items, or non-slip mats — and if you've had a fall, surgery, or hospital stay, you may qualify for rehab support like physical or occupational therapy, sometimes even with an in-home component. If you're not sure what's included in your plan, that's exactly what I'm here for. Kathy Keadle, Agent
