Our pastor said last week, “How strange it is to call it Good Friday.” Because for Jesus, it was anything but. He was betrayed, beaten, and crucified—with the weight of the world’s sin on His shoulders.
If anything, for Him, it was probably the worst Friday of His living life.
But without His “worst Friday ever” —
Without the cross,
Without the resurrection,
Without the sacrifice,
Without the beating,
Without the humiliation,
Without the blood of Jesus —
There is no salvation.
In every battle, there’s a winner and a loser. And in the battle for our souls, the victory has already been won. The price already paid.
So yes—it is a Good Friday.
Good because love won.
Good because grace prevailed.
Good because Jesus didn’t stay in the grave.
Thank You, Jesus.
Thank You for Your sacrifice.
Thank You for looking death in the face and saying, “Let this cup pass, if possible… but if not, if there is no other way, I will lay down My life for theirs.”
“If this is the only way… if I am the only way for Paul to make Heaven… I’ll give Mine for his.”
It’s easy to forget—Jesus was fully God, but also fully human.
And human nature longs to live.
He had to have felt the weight of that desire…
But He still chose death, so I could have life.
That kind of love—I’ll never deserve.
But I will always be thankful.
