I woke up this morning with gratitude. On June 1, 2019, was the start of my agency, making today my 7-year anniversary!

New Mexico officials are urging motorists and riders to take extra precautions after 17 motorcycle deaths were reported statewide so far in 2026 following 68 deaths in 2025.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation says drivers should watch blind spots, leave extra space and stay alert for motorcycles, especially at intersections and during lane changes. Riders are also being encouraged to wear helmets and reduce speeds.

The warning comes as Albuquerque police recently investigated two separate deadly motorcycle crashes in the city.
