Life Insurance is just that. With the right policy, you will have safety net for your family, but written correctly, it can be that protection that takes care of YOU when you need it most or that retirement protection that helps offset inflation and retirement needs.

If you can't afford the premium, how will your family afford the problem? This is not sales question, it's an invitation to look at strategies.

We've seen the TV commercials about Life Insurance and the only thing that counts are 3 "P's" where there spokesperson says, "Price, Price, Price." I couldn't disagree more. If they want to reduce something so important as Life Insurance down to a cute antic or jingle, then I propose the 3 P's should stand for: PURPOSE: What do you want it to do for you? (Cover a mortgage, protect your family until kids are grown or be part of your retirement plan and therefore be there until the end. The first "P" should be Purpose. The 2nd "P" should be PROTECTION. What benefit limit do you need in order for it to DO ITS JOB? Having the right amount changes your outcome in life from a bandage to a real life saver! Lastly, the 3rd "P" is indeed PRICE, but I use a different context. What can be reasonably budgeted? Life insurance is of no good to anyone if it's not going to be there when you need it. Having a reasonable budget takes into account what you can afford to ensure it will be there. Budget also means what should I allocate our of my budget for what I've already valued as PURPOSE and PROTECTION? I will say this about those commercials, they do generate the discussion.
