Today, we honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, it’s a reminder that courage, sacrifice, and service built the freedoms we cherish every day.

May we never forget the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

May this day be filled with gratitude, remembrance, and celebration. Enjoy your day with your family and God Bless America!!

Yesterday, I was honored to deliver the commencement speech for the 50th graduating class in Cibola High School history. I want to thank Principal Kimberly Finke and Activities Director Jeanine Chavez for inviting me to serve as the guest speaker. As a proud member of Cibola’s Class of 1978, I shared some of the life lessons I’ve learned since graduating from Cibola High School.

Here was my speech and hopefully the message helps you, my Facebook friends:

"What an honor it is to stand here with you today as Cibola High School celebrates 50 years since its first graduating class, which took place at the Civic Auditorium that no longer exists. 50 years ago, there was an airport and Cibola High School. There were no McDonalds, baseball and softball fields and no roof over the concourse.

I was a sophomore here in 1976, and the Class of 1978 became the first class to go all four years at Cibola. We were the last class to have our graduation in the gym. So, when I look at you today, I don’t just see graduates. I see the next chapter in a 50-year legacy.
Class of 2026.

I want you to remember this from my experiences after graduating from Cibola High School:

You were born to win.

That does not mean life will always be easy. It does not mean every plan will work, every door will open, or every dream will happen exactly on your schedule. It means you were born with purpose, potential, and the ability to rise.

You will fail at times. Everyone does. But failure is not final. Failure is feedback. Failure teaches you what the classroom cannot. Learn from your failures, adjust, grow, and keep moving. Many of the most successful people in the world were not the people who never failed. They were the people who never gave up.

So dream big.
Dream bigger than your current circumstances. Dream bigger than what others think is realistic. Dream bigger than the noise around you.
And there will be noise.
There will be people who tell you that you can’t do it. There will be critics, doubters, distractions, and sometimes even your own fear. But don’t listen to the noise. Listen to the voice inside you that says, “I can do this.” Right now, I am working on a $40 million project, which I call the Inspiration & Achievement Center, which we hope to announce to the public in the next few months. I am still dreaming!!

Because you can.
You are graduating into a world changing faster than any generation before you. Artificial Intelligence will transform careers, businesses, education, and opportunity. But remember this: AI will not replace you. Someone using AI will. Be that someone.
Use technology. Learn it. Master it. Let it make you more creative, more productive, and more valuable. Don’t run from the future. Lead it.

And please, don’t be average.
Average is comfortable. Average is easy. But average is also crowded. I tell my team of employees that, “Average is the best of the worst.” Don’t settle there. Be excellent. Be dependable. Be the person who shows up early, stays late, keeps promises, and does the right thing when no one is watching.

And here is one of the greatest lessons I can give you: If you want to make more money, help more people. If you want a better life, create value for others. If you want success that lasts, give back to your community.

Your success is not just about what you earn. It is about who you lift. It is about the people you help, the lives you touch, and the difference you make.

Class of 2026, your journey will include challenges. Some things will be difficult. Some goals will take time. But remember: the difficult takes time — the impossible just takes a little longer.

So go forward with courage. Go forward with faith. Go forward with discipline. Go forward knowing that you are part of Cibola history.
Fifty years from now, people may look back at the Class of 2026 and say, “That was the class that dreamed bigger, worked harder, gave more, and changed the world.”

Congratulations, Class of 2026.
You were born to win.
Now go show the world you will be a positive difference maker.
Good Luck!
God Bless You All!

I presented the $1,500 “Oscar & Lydia Saiz Scholarship,” named in honor of my parents, to Cibola High School’s top male and female senior student-athletes. The recipients were selected by the Valley High School Athletic Department.

I’m proud to have been a Silver Sponsor for the 16th Annual Bud Neilsen Memorial ALS Charity Golf “Swing for a Cure” Tournament held yesterday. It was an honor to support this special event that helps individuals courageously battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Since I’m a pretty lousy golfer, I proudly serve as the unofficial photographer each year! I had a great time capturing memories and visiting with the teams on a windy, yet beautiful blue-sky New Mexico day.

This marks the 14th year my State Farm agency has sponsored this impactful event, which has become one of New Mexico’s largest charity golf tournaments. This year featured 91 teams and 372 golfers, helping raise an incredible $120,000 for ALS of New Mexico.

A huge thank you to Executive Director Katie Crouch, along with the dynamic duo of Michelle Waters-McMullen and Maria Montoya, for organizing an outstanding VIP brunch on Sunday and an exceptional two-flight golf tournament.

Supporting ALS of New Mexico’s events, both the Golf Tournament and Walk is a cause very close to my heart. My inspiration comes from my dear friend Gene Pino, who is still courageously battling ALS since 2011. Sadly, in recent years, we also lost cherished customers and friends Marie Zamora, Penny Perkins, and Don Maestas to this terrible disease. In addition, Fred Adler, a respected volleyball coach, official, and club owner has been courageously living with ALS for the past six years.

I truly hope that one day soon we will find a cure for this devastating disease.

I had the opportunity yesterday to photograph one of the New Mexico High School Baseball State Championship games at Lobo Baseball Field, watching the #1 seed East Mountain High School Timberwolves take on the #3 seed St. Michael’s High School Horsemen. I focused on this game since I oversee the NMAA Record Book for High School Baseball. Their were state records broken in this game!

Led by seniors Charlie Birdwell and Luke Stoerner, the Timberwolves delivered an impressive 10–0 six-inning victory over St. Michael’s to capture the 3A State Championship.

Luke was dominant on the mound, shutting down the Horsemen throughout the game and finishing with seven strikeouts while allowing only four hits. Charlie ended the game with a 3-run inside the park home run in the sixth inning to make it 10–0 and end the game by 10-run rule.

The Timberwolves’ offense was just as remarkable. For six straight games, East Mountain scored in double figures. With their 10 runs in the championship game, they broke the New Mexico state record for Runs in a Season with 416, surpassing the 2009 Sandia Prep team. They also finished the season with 358 hits, ranking #4 all-time.

East Mountain finished the year 28–1, with those 28 wins ranking #9 all-time. The Timberwolves won 23 straight games after a 7–4 loss to 5A Rio Grande on March 14. During that streak, 14 games were decided by 10 or more runs, ranking #10 all-time. The team also recorded 10 shutouts including their final two opponents, West Las Vegas in the state semifinals and St. Michael’s in the championship game.

Saturday marked East Mountain’s third championship game appearance and its second state title. The Timberwolves previously won the 2A crown in 2012 over Santa Rosa and were the 3A runners-up to NMMI in 2022.

Congratulations to East Mountain High School on an incredible season, and congratulations to all of the state champions across every spring sport!

Yesterday, I had the privilege of visiting three classrooms at Eugene Field Elementary for Career Day. I took "Jake" to help me. I had the opportunity to share with the students what it’s like to be an insurance agent, the importance of having big dreams, reading books, listening to their teachers, and striving for straight A’s. I emphasized that education is their ticket to helping more people and ultimately creating more opportunities for themselves.

I want to thank my former employee, Michelle Lyden, for inviting me to be part of such a special day. Michelle worked with me for six years—two during high school and four throughout college, which made the experience even more meaningful.

I also want to extend my gratitude to Principal Travis Tester, teacher Isela Imai, and counselor Tina Chacon for their warm hospitality.

Eugene Field Elementary is the oldest active elementary school in Albuquerque and will celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2027. I had a great time and hope I was able to make a positive impact on the students!

I wanted to share some encouraging news, especially during a time when so many families are looking for ways to save.

Today, State Farm announced it is issuing $5 billion in dividends to eligible State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company auto customers. This is possible because State Farm is a mutual company, which means the company is owned by its policyholders. When the company does well, those benefits can be shared with customers.

And there’s more good news here in New Mexico. In November 2025, State Farm lowered auto insurance rates in our state by approximately 10%.

If you’re not currently insured with State Farm in New Mexico, we’d love the opportunity to review your coverage. Our goal is simple: make sure you’re properly protected and not paying more than you need to. We can also share strategies that may help lower your auto and homeowners insurance costs. Give us a call at 505-350-5356.

Being part of a mutual company truly makes a difference, it means the focus stays where it belongs: on serving and protecting customers.

If you’d like a coverage review, my team and I are always here to help.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to ALS New Mexico President & CEO Katie Crouch for the tickets to the 10th Annual Hearts on Your Sleeve ALS Fashion Show. Katie and her outstanding team, Michelle Waters‑McMullan, Director of Care Services, and Maria Montoya, Development & Engagement Manager, created a truly memorable evening at Sandia Resort & Casino.

This powerhouse team of three, along with the event committee, hosted more than 500 attendees and surpassed their fundraising goal of $150,000, reaching an impressive $159,665.

ABOUT THE EVENT
Founded in 2017 by a passionate group of fashion lovers and ALS advocates, the Hearts on Your Sleeve ALS Fashion Show was created as a heartfelt tribute to family members and friends who bravely battled ALS like my friend, Gene Pino. Over the years, the event has grown into a celebration of fashion, community, and purpose, honoring the stories of ALS patients, caregivers, and advocates who continue to fight this devastating disease with courage and grace.

IMPACT
Proceeds from this year’s gala support ALS New Mexico, an organization dedicated to providing essential services, resources, and research support for ALS patients and their families across the Land of Enchantment.

By attending and supporting Hearts on Your Sleeve, guests helped advance the mission to improve the lives of those affected by ALS and move closer to finding a cure. The evening not only showcased style and creativity, but it also amplified awareness and lifted up the voices of those living with ALS, their caregivers, and the advocates who stand beside them.

God Bless you, Katie and your team for all the great work you do help those inflicted with ALS and their families.

41 Years of Gratitude, Growth, and Giving Back!!!

I’m excited and deeply thankful to share that I’ve just completed my 41st year with State Farm. It’s been an incredible journey that began when I was only 23 years old. While this past year brought its share of challenges, my agency achieved its best year ever, a true testament to perseverance, teamwork, and trust.

I am profoundly thankful to my policyholders, whose confidence in me means everything, and to my dedicated team, who work tirelessly every day to take care of them. None of this success happens alone.

As I look ahead to 2026, my goal is simple yet powerful: to make it the best year ever for my family, my agency, and my community. One of my life mottos is “ILED” — I Live Each Day. Life is short, so make it count. I plan to try things I’ve never done before, go places I’ve never been, and truly savor time with the people I love. I want to create new adventures, share more laughter, appreciate my family, friends, coworkers, employees, and always find meaningful ways to give back to my community.

Throughout this journey, the Good Lord has presented both challenges and opportunities, and I could not have succeeded without the unwavering support of my family. My wife, Teresa, has been by my side from the very beginning. My sons, Kenny Saiz and Kevin Saiz, have both worked in my office and contributed to our agency’s success, while my daughter, Megan, has supported our community projects and offered constant encouragement.

I’ve also been fortunate to learn from exceptional leaders and mentors. My first manager, Phil Alexander, hired me and became the single greatest influence on my business life. Dennis Hodges, my only boss during my four years in management (1995–1999), encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, get involved in the community, and grow, despite my natural introversion. Over the past 27 years, I’ve continued learning from outstanding agents and sales leaders through the Mastermind and Colorado Study Groups.

To my policyholders, thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me with your insurance and financial needs. If you’re not yet a client, please remember that I’m a local business that truly believes in giving back to the community. I’d be honored to offer you a second opinion on your insurance and financial services.

I’ve had the privilege of serving customers across the entire state of New Mexico, including some of my largest accounts in Clayton and Hatch. When I started in 1985, my goals were to provide a good life for my family, ensure customers knew about all available discounts and credits, and educate them about insurance risks and options to protect their financial future. Those goals remain unchanged today.
After returning to the role of agent in 1999, I added another core mission: giving back to my community.

I could never have imagined that my first death claim would be for my father in July of 1987. That moment forever reinforced the importance of life insurance and strengthened my commitment to helping families.

A special thank you goes to Henry Tafoya, who helped build my confidence in public communication. Until 2002, I was a true introvert. Henry pushed me to assist him with radio broadcasts of high school sports, and over a 15-year period, we called more than 1,000 high school football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball games.

Because of that journey, I’ve been able to participate in high school banquets since 1997 and support organizations such as JDRF, ALS, the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame, numerous youth programs, and scholarship initiatives for deserving student-athletes.

This journey has been incredible, and I’m definitely not ready to retire. I’m currently working on my biggest project ever, the Inspiration and Achievement Center, which will inspire New Mexicans to believe that anything is possible with an “I Can Do It” attitude. I’m excited to share more updates soon and to keep helping people, building friendships, and serving my community for many years to come.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.
God bless you all!
