RJA Insurance- Mistie Wiggs My goal is to help my customers get the right insurance for their businesses to ensure that they’re protected.

I focus on excavation contractors, trucking, manufacturing, life insurance and key person life policies, and farms and commercial agriculture.

Most insurance agents try to be everything to everyone.
I chose to specialize.

I work primarily with commercial ag and contractor accounts, including:

• Excavation contractors
• Logging operations
• Septic installation contractors
• Contractors needing payment & performance bonds
• Service and trade related operations

These industries come with real exposure — heavy equipment, jobsite liability, DOT issues, bonding requirements, and growth risks. You need coverage structured correctly from the start.

Poultry operations were my first specialty and where my passion for commercial ag insurance truly began. I haven’t forgotten those roots, and I still love taking care of both new and existing poultry farmers. That foundation is what opened the door for me to expand into these other contractor and agricultural markets.

If you’d like a second opinion on your coverage or need help bidding larger jobs that require bonds, I’d love to help.

❄️ FREEZE ALERT FOR POULTRY GROWERS ❄️

With freezing temperatures and the possibility of snow and ice moving into our area, poultry houses face an increased risk of structural stress and collapse from added weight.

The good news: there are steps you can take to help reduce that risk 👇

✅ Preventive Steps to Consider:

🏠 Open attic vents or snow holes
Allow heat to move into the attic to help melt snow and ice before it accumulates on the roof.

🔥 Increase house heat
Higher heat helps maximize warm air entering the attic space.

⬇️ Lower feed lines to the ground
This helps remove excess weight and strain from the structure.

💧 Drain or empty water lines
Prevents frozen or burst pipes that can lead to flooding once temperatures rise.

👀 Monitor houses frequently during the freeze
Watch for sagging, leaks, or ice buildup — early action matters. Also check your trusses after to confirm there is no damage.

🛠️ Have emergency contacts ready
Quick response can prevent minor issues from becoming major losses.

⚠️ Ice and snow weight can become dangerous quickly. Preparation and vigilance are key.

If you have questions about coverage or want to review your policy before the weather hits, we’re here to help.

Stay safe. Stay warm.

Farming in the South isn’t one-size-fits-all, especially when it comes to poultry or chicken operations. From flock size and housing to equipment and transportation, the details matter when you’re thinking about insurance.

Randy Jones & Associates works with poultry farmers across Alabama to help identify coverage options that align with how their operations run today, not how a template says they should. The goal is clear coverage, fewer surprises, and confidence in what’s in place.

If you’re raising poultry or chickens anywhere in Alabama, it may be a good time to review your insurance and make sure it still matches the realities of your farm. Our team can help with that – reach out today.
