We had a great time!!!

When you allow young people to choose what they want to read, they embrace reading and create a positive relationship with literacy.

We were happy to bring our on the road. Nightwing, Spider Gwen, Spiderman and more joined in on the fun to encourage the young people in attendance to read.

They dreamt of becoming superheroes and created superhero profiles. They took pictures, got free books, popcorn, drinks and enjoyed the movie.

This is what community looks like and stay tuned for the next stop on our tour!

One week from today we will be joining the Office Of Special Events to host a FREE showing of Spiderman: Brand New Day!

We are taking our Superhero Academy on the road to promote literacy, civic engagement and social responsibility.

Comic books will be provided by the good people over at and activities will be facilitated by Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker himself!

We are and investing in our young people is how we change the future!

Come learn about the lives and contributions of Black sailors and maritime workers through storytelling, hands-on exploration, and a curated book display! All ages are welcome to join us.
This program was researched by and will be led by representatives from The Underground Railroad Education Center, in conjunction with The RED Bookshelf.

Welcome to Superhero Academy: Sophomore Year!

We have a couple of spots left! Contact us today to register!

The Superhero Academy is our summer program that combines reading, fun and community. If we want the world to be a better place, we must actively create that reality. For that reason, our summer program will include games, activities and field trips, as well as reading activities, financial literacy education and explorations into social responsibility and civic engagement. 

The Academy will be held at the Love Albany Center, located at 8 Kate St, Albany, NY 12209. Our program begins July 6th and ends August 14th and will run from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Breakfast, lunch and snack will be provided. We will take several field trips and bring in guest presenters in order to expose our young people to experiences and opportunities. 

This free camp is designed to support parents, engage young people in safe and fun activities and train future superheroes. Planting superhero seeds is how we change the future.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this to life and we are looking forward to a great summer!!

At The RED Bookshelf, it is important that we support local authors as we inspire children to read.

The incredible Touches of Nykesa LLC. is always present and ready to share her new kids book with young people.

Her book is about confidence, culture and crowns. She is an entrepreneur, a parent and an inspiration. She connects with young people, answers questions and makes becoming an author a tangible reality.

STORM has been reading to kids across the city. You may have seen her at Capital Repertory Theatre during Storytime, at Giffen during enrichment week or at a free movie at the park. We appreciate they way she demonstrates her commitment to our young people.
