San Luis Valley Housing Coalition 0%-2% Loans Available for Down Payment and Home Rehabilitation Assistance. Need Help Buying a Home

"The San Luis Valley Housing Coalition promotes positive community development by providing affordable quality housing to low-to-moderate income residents of the San Luis Valley” – Mission Statement

The San Luis Valley Housing Coalition (SLVHC) was founded in1993 in response to the increasing housing needs of the San Luis Valley. The SLVHC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that has been rec

ognized by the Colorado Division of Housing as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). The SLVHC has been dedicated in its efforts to bring safe and affordable housing to our Valley residents through the Programs offered including Home Rehabilitation, which allows eligible persons to make the necessary renovations their home may need without facing up-front costs, and Down Payment Assistance in which qualified first-time homebuyers receive funding for their down payment and/or closing costs. These low-interest loan programs are in high demand not only because interest rates may range from 1% to 5% and have affordable monthly payments, but also because of the aged housing stock in this widespread rural area. The SLVHC strives to bring back pride in our community as well as in the faces of our future. Many families in need of assistance are often not aware of the agencies that can provide services available to their lives. The SLVHC is working to inform community members of the assistance that is available to them through brochures, presentations and press releases in the local newspaper and on local radio stations. Through teamwork and dedication, the SLVHC has improved the quality of life for many San Luis Valley residents. With hard work and ingenuity, the SLVHC will further assist in the enrichment of its communities. EQUAL CREDIT OPPORTUNITY ACT

Overnight, May 4th to May 5th, 2026, someone went into the Century Mobile Home Park and stole windows out of one of our empty homes.

Even though this home was set for demo, this is a crime. These windows are illegal to install in Alamosa.

Congratulations to all the graduates, but ESPECIALLY our very own Shawna James!

Shawna has been with the San Luis Valley Housing Coalition for 16 years. She started as a part-time site manager with one property and grew to a full-time site manager with two properties while assisting other site managers in our organization.

Shawna has helped 100s of households find and maintain affordable housing in her time with SLVHC. She started the Kids Christmas program here at SLVHC by collecting donations from board members and staff to help provide gifts to all the kids at her two properties over 5 years ago. This program grew to add our other properties in 2023 with her guidance.

With SMILE, Shawna will now add the Alamosa Housing Authority in 2026 and hopes to expand to other communities around the Valley each year as the program grows.

SLVHC's board and staff are honored to support Shawna James with this project, and we cannot wait to see it grow to meet her vision.

Congratulations Shawna!! Keep Shooting for the Stars!!

Graduates of Shooting Stars Center’s Family Leadership Training Institute program have big plans

🚨URGENT UPDATES 🚨
Century Mobile Home Park, Horizon Heights, Casita de la Luna, and our main office in Alamosa are all part of the POSSIBLE power shutoff anticipated by Xcel for Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 11 am to 7 pm, with up to several days to turn power back on if lines are damaged. Notification has been sent to all our clients with electronic communication.

If power is shut off, our offices will be closed starting at shutoff until power is restored, or Thursday at 8 am if restored the same day.

High Valley Manor (Monte Vista), Rancho Creede (Creede), and our single-family houses are not within the scheduled shutoff map, BUT could still lose electricity due to high winds.

To prepare:
* If you require oxygen or other medical equipment that is plugged in, make arrangements with your medical supply company.
* Be sure electronics are fully charged
* Be sure to have non-perishable food that can be made without electricity
* Be sure to keep your refrigerator and freezers closed to hold the cold in. Only open if necessary.
* You will not have hot water or heat during the shutoff, so make sure you have plenty of blankets.
* Plan personal hygiene before or after the proposed time.
