Porch Council, one week until the Stark County Fair.

By now you've probably started planning your fair strategy: which gate to park at, how many tickets to buy for the rides, and exactly how many fair fries constitute "a reasonable amount" (spoiler: there is no reasonable amount).

Here's a reminder of where to find us: The Burgess Group, Ol' Man Motors, and Astoria/DataCom Technologies will be set up at the Stark County Farm Bureau Building all week, September 1–7.

Go see the 4-H kids and their animals first. Seriously. That's the best part of the fair, and those Sales matter.

Then come find us for a laugh, a thermos of coffee, and a shot at our special giveaway—which we are still not telling you about. You'll just have to stop by.

One week to go!

08/20/2026

Alright, Porch Council, we have news.

The Stark County Fair is coming—September 1st through 7th—and this year you'll find The Burgess Group, Ol' Man Motors, and Astoria/DataCom Technologies set up inside the Stark County Farm Bureau Building.

We're not going to pretend fair fries and funnel cake aren't a big deal. They are. Very much so.

But the real reason to go? The animals. The kids. The 4-H Sales. Those kids have put in months of early mornings and hard work, and the fair is where it all pays off.

Mark your calendars. We'll be there with good company, some laughs, and probably a thermos of coffee.

We'll also have a special giveaway everyone is going to want in on. Keep checking back—we're not spilling the details yet.

Stark County Fair: September 1–7. Find us at the Farm Bureau Building.

Okay Porch Council-Is it possible to be incredibly happy and a little sad at the exact same time?

Because back-to-school season is here, and parents across Ohio and West Virginia are standing in the kitchen thinking:

“Thank goodness.”

Followed immediately by:

“Wait… why is the house so quiet?”

The kiddos are heading back to school, which means you may finally get to drink an entire cup of coffee while it’s still hot, use the bathroom without an audience, and stop making seven different meals before lunch because apparently nobody in the house likes the same food.

One wants chicken nuggets.

One wants a sandwich—but not that kind of bread.

One has decided vegetables are a personal attack.

And someone is eating cereal directly out of a mixing bowl at 10:30 in the morning.

So yes, there may be a small hallelujah.

But there may also be a lump in your throat when the backpacks go on, the shoes get tied, and those little people you’ve spent all summer feeding, chauffeuring, reminding, correcting, and occasionally negotiating with head back out into the world.

Back-to-school season can be happy, sad, exciting, exhausting, and just quiet enough to make you realize how quickly they’re growing up.

It may also be a good time to review your family’s auto insurance, homeowners insurance, renters insurance, and life insurance.

Maybe your teenager is driving to school for the first time. Maybe your college student is moving into a dorm or renting an apartment. Maybe laptops, electronics, and other belongings are leaving the house with them.

Life changes quickly. Your insurance coverage should keep up.

The Burgess Truth:

You can miss them terribly and still celebrate the fact that nobody has asked you for a snack in 22 minutes.

Here’s to a safe and successful school year for families in Alliance, Akron, Canton, North Canton, Wadsworth, and throughout Ohio and West Virginia.

Now go enjoy that hot coffee.

You earned it.

Porch Council, we need to discuss the “20% chance of rain.”

Twenty percent.

That is what the weather app said before the sky turned the color of an old bruise, the wind started throwing patio furniture around, and the rain came down sideways like it had a personal issue with everybody’s gutters.

Meanwhile, someone three miles away is standing in full sunshine, wondering why everyone else is being dramatic.

This is life in Ohio and West Virginia. One minute you’re debating whether to water the flowers. The next minute you’re chasing a trash can down the street in flip-flops.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, a tree limb decides it has had enough of being attached to a tree.

The Burgess Truth:
A weather app is just a Magic 8-Ball with a data plan.

Before the next storm gets creative, let’s make sure your home coverage and deductible still make sense.

Porch Council, college move-in season is coming.

This is the annual tradition where families attempt to fit a mini fridge, a mattress topper, seventeen hoodies, a lamp, a desk chair, and enough snacks to survive a minor apocalypse into one vehicle.

By the end of the day, everyone is tired, emotional, and silently wondering why the student needs four throw blankets.

Before they head to a dorm—or that first off-campus apartment with roommates who apparently believe dishes clean themselves—it may be worth asking a few insurance questions.

Because “my laptop is probably covered” is not a plan.

The Burgess Truth:
Most college students are adults… until they need a few bucks for “books.”

Before move-in day, bring us your questions. We’ll help sort through the coverage details without requiring anyone to find a missing charger beneath a mountain of dorm bedding.

Alright, Porch Council, somebody’s kid just got their driver’s license.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF THEM-Congratulations!

Also, locate your Bible, rosary beads, lucky charm, stress ball, and possibly an eye mask.
Because the person who used to ask where the cereal was is now operating a two-ton vehicle through construction zones, rainstorms, deer country, and parking lots designed by people with a personal issue against mankind.

And they are confident.
Very confident.

Which is exactly why, at some point, you will receive a phone call that begins with:
“Mom/Dad, I’m fine, but there’s a little situation.”
A “little situation” is parent-language for a story that starts with, “So I was backing up…”

The Burgess Truth:
A teenager with a driver’s license is proof that hope is stronger than the passenger-side brake you keep trying to press. The experience will come with time, but maybe not soon enough.

Before the keys officially change hands, let’s talk about the auto coverage. Bring the questions. We’ll bring the coffee—and give everyone a moment to breathe.

Alright, Porch Council—let’s talk coffee and insurance.

Because both are significantly better when they aren’t weak, confusing, or handed to you by someone who clearly doesn’t want to be there.

Insurance paperwork has a special talent for turning normal people into amateur archaeologists. You start looking for one declaration page and suddenly you’re sitting on the floor surrounded by old mail, warranties for appliances you no longer own, and a receipt from 2017 that feels emotionally important for some reason.

And somehow, the page you actually need has vanished into the same dimension as missing socks and Tupperware lids.

That’s where Coffee Talk with Burgess comes in.

Bring the policy. Bring the questions. Bring the mystery folder from the glove box that has been riding around with you since the last presidential administration. We’ll pour the coffee, translate the insurance language into regular-human language, and help you figure out whether your coverage still makes sense.

Because “I think I’m covered” is not a strategy.

"We take our coffee almost as seriously as we take protecting the people who trust us!"

Stop by. Have a cup of coffee. Let’s get to know each other.

Alright, Porch Council—can we all agree on something?

Every house has… The Drawer.

It’s the graveyard of dead batteries, mystery keys that belong to houses you sold in 2004, and approximately nine billion menus for pizza places that don’t even exist anymore. Somewhere in there—sandwiched between a flashlight that doesn’t work and a receipt for a toaster you threw away three years ago—is your insurance policy.

Or so you hope.

Until the day the wind picks up, the branch breaks, and suddenly you’re participating in the Extreme Household Scavenger Hunt. You’ll find your high school diploma. You’ll find a checkbook from a bank that went out of business. You might even find five dollars.

But you won’t find that policy number while the rain is coming through the roof.

That’s why we like the Burgess Bundle. We put your home, auto, business, and life under one roof. One team. One place. No more archaeology in the kitchen drawers.

The Burgess Truth:
If your filing system is based on hope and a junk drawer… we should probably have coffee.

Bring Dustin and the team your “Junk Drawer” of policies. We’ll provide the coffee and the organization.
