NEWS RELEASE: Winter Weather Hotline Activated

South Carolina residents with questions about the winter weather response can call the state’s toll-free hotline. Operators with the State’s Public Information Phone System are available 24 hours a day for as long as needed.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service report the threat of freezing rain will continue across the Upstate through early Sunday evening. Forecasters say lighter freezing rain is expected across the Midlands and coastal plain before conditions intensify late Sunday afternoon and early Sunday evening north of Interstate 20.

Forecasters say significant ice accumulations of one-quarter to one-half inch are expected in the Upstate, with one-tenth to one-quarter inch forecast across the Midlands and P*e Dee north of I-20. Elsewhere, forecasters say light ice accumulations remain possible.

According to the National Weather Service, very cold temperatures are forecast for Monday night, with lows ranging from 10 to 20 degrees across most of the state. Forecasters say some areas of the Upstate could see temperatures drop into the single digits.
