Dolly was a very bright and beautiful light!

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Will Live On!

In 1995, Dolly Parton began mailing books to children in her home county in Tennessee with a simple but powerful goal: to inspire a lifelong love of reading. She created the Imagination Library in honor of her father, who was unable to read or write.

In 2024, the Ada Public Library, Pontotoc County Regional Library and Ada Library Friends partnered with the Dolly Parton Foundation to bring the Imagination Library back to our area.

Today, more than 1,000 children across the Pontotoc County region receive a book in their mailbox every month — made possible by local partners who fund the program, volunteers who help keep it going, and the vision of a woman from Sevier County, Tennessee, who believed every child should have books of their very own.

While the books are provided at no cost to families, there is a cost for our local partners. For approximately $16 a year, one child can receive 12 books — a new book every month.
