Knights of Columbus Villa Marie Council # 6342 Knights of Columbus Villa Marie Council # 6342. Catholic Gentlemen Serving God, Church and Community. In service to one. In service to all. Father Michael J.

Welcome to the Villa Maria Council # 6342 of the Knights of Columbus. McGivney and a handful of Catholic laymen founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882, in the basement of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Connecticut. The aim of the founder was to set up a parish-based lay organization that offered insurance benefits to the widows and children of members. In an era when parish and fraterna

l societies were popular, Father McGivney felt there should be some way to strengthen the religious faith of his flock and provide financial support for families overwhelmed by illness or the death of the breadwinner. Today the Knights of Columbus have grown from that one local unit, or council, to over 12,000 councils in the United States (including Puerto Rico and Guam), Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, and Saipan. In January 2006, the Knights of Columbus expanded to Poland. Membership is over 1.7 million members, plus their families - approximately 5.6 million people total - many of whom are actively involved in volunteer service programs for the Catholic Church, their communities, their families, young people and one another. The Knights of Columbus, the world's largest organization of Catholic men and their families, has been called "the strong right arm of the Church," and has been cited by popes, presidents and other world leaders for support of the Church, for programs of evangelization and Catholic education, for civic involvement and aid to those in need. One of the primary missions of the Knights of Columbus is to support local charities. The Knights are a familiar sight around town during the annual Mentally Challenged Citizens drive, which raises funds for charities that support the retarded and handicapped. We also support other fund raising drives to aid local parishes and charities. The Knights of Columbus promotes family values by providing numerous activities throughout the year that the entire family can participate in. Additionally, the organization provides an opportunity to ensure that a knight's family is provided for in the event of his death. Here is short list of reasons you may want to join the Knights of Columbus:
· An opportunity to become part of the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization;
· Make a personal contribution to the Church and community through charity and fraternity;
· A sense of "belonging" in an organization that shares your religious beliefs and brings to together like-minded men joined in a common cause;
· Concerns for your family and retirement years can be addressed by the Orders optional, low-cost life insurance; and
· Knowing that the Knights of Columbus is second to none in support of our Holy Father, our Bishops and Priests, and our fellow man.

Have a blessed Easter .

Matthew 28:5-6
[5]Then the Angel responded by saying to the women: "Do not be afraid. For I know that you are seeking Jesus, who was crucified.
[6]He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where the Lord was placed.

The set up for our Shrove Pancake Dinner will be on Tuesday morning February 17th at 10:00. If you have a free hour that morning, please stop by and give us a hand. It shouldn’t take long. For those who are planning on helping out with the dinner, it starts at 4:00 so if you can be there by 3:00, that would be great.

As we exchange gifts this Christmas let's not forget the greatest gift given to mankind was when a savior was born. 2000 years ago Jesus was a gift from God to show us how to love one another.
Merry Christmas

Assumption Regional Catholic School (ARCS) will be having its annual Christmas Craft Fair this Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Again, we will have a table at the fair to sell our Keep Christ in Christmas items to help support our scholarship program. If anyone would like to come out and help us at the table or just to hang out, you’re more than welcome. We’ll see you tomorrow

This coming weekend. Friday November 7th and Saturday November 8th, SEAS will be having their annual Christmas Bazaar, where we will have a table set up to sell our Keep Christ in Christmas items. The bazaar runs from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. I am looking for some help in manning our table. I am working until 4:00 on Friday and will be at the Man Up conference on Saturday. Our PGK Tom Kohler has volunteered to help but we could use some more knights to assist. The proceeds from this go towards our scholarship program so I am hoping that members of our scholarship committee can come out and help. If you have any questions or would like to help, please give me a call or email. Also, OLPH will be having their craft fair the following weekend on Saturday November 15th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm if you are available. Thank you in advance for your help.

Brothers,

We can have access to the church hall after 1:00 on Saturday (there is a funeral and they need the viewing room), so let’s plan on setting up the hall at 2:00 for the pancake breakfast. That will give us enough time to setup the hall and still make mass at 4:00. The more help, the faster it goes. Thanks again for your help.
