A lot of people hear the word deductible all the time, but aren’t totally sure what it actually means.

Your deductible is the amount you pay out-of-pocket before your insurance starts helping cover the cost.

So if you have a $1,000 deductible, that means you pay the first $1,000 of a covered claim, then your insurance steps in after that.

Choosing the right deductible can affect your monthly premium AND what you pay if something happens, so it’s important to make sure your policy fits your situation.
