Elyon Women Empowerment program wants to start a piggery project to enhance the financial status of the members. Reason being a number of women are jobless and yet with a great responsibility of taking care of their respective households.
There is a lot of alcoholism in our community, so one of booming economic activity is brewing local alcohol and pork roasting. This has come up with a numbers of challenges that have affected many families in this community. A number of men start drinking in the morning.
This doesn’t allow them to work for their families and the little they get, it’s all consumed. So, this makes life for women and children hard as it creates a number of challenges like; family breakdown, domestic violence, poverty, high rate of school drop outs, moral decay etc. In a way of trying to reduce those challenges an association of women was formed.
We have tried to meet monthly for information sharing and for saving purpose, but we still have a general financial need to be addressed. We have been saving at least 5000/= per month per member and lending it to someone able to use it and bring it back with some interest but it is still low to support each member well to start a reasonable small business.
That prompted us to come up with an idea of another boosting income and that is the piggery project.
