*ON TOP OF THE CITY:* NAIROBI CITY TOUR
During my business trip to Kenya, it was demanding as a tourism and cultural enthusiast that I take a city tour in a bid to familiarise myself with cities of Africa.
On a bright Sunday morning, I had to board local taxi known as Matatu to the city centre as we proceeded to the Museum. A travel with Matatu exposed me to native experience on local transport which is similar to Boda Boda or Taxi as in Kampala.
In a company of friends, we reached Nairobi National Museum with a display of the African Heritage with expansion and rehabilitation funded by European Union and officially opened by HE Hon. Mwai Kibaki on 14th July 2008
As a non resident (Ugandan), I had to pay KSH 1,500 (UGX 45,000) for a combined ticket to experience the entire museum. The price was affordable and worth the experience there.
We were guided through the museum by Nathan and Diana as the tour facilitators, very well versed with knowledge.
I learnt that Kenya has over 1300 species of birds, 54 tribes including Indian tribe recently recognized by the government of Kenya.
There are over 900 species of butterflies looking nice and beautiful. Kenya has a good island called central island located in Turkana with lakes inside a lake. Wow!
The snake park......ooooooooh huuuu.... Oh no...I just fear snakes, I didn't enjoy it but my colleagues were over the moon to touch and play with snakes.
The aquarium oh yes! I like fish. The place where fish is reared had a lot of species...
A city drive along University of Nairobi up to R & G Restaurant along Biashara Street where we had lunch and of course the menu was so heavy that I chose to eat Goat stew well served chips and a bottle of cold Coca Cola......shiiiii ....in a heavy glass.
Shortly after visiting the Nairobi County Market and city walk along Muindi Mbingu Street, We drove to Kenyatta international convention centre (KICC) with a tall building (34 Floors) that makes stand top of the city and a close view for Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) . We moved to the Supreme Court chambers and Office of the Governor for Nairobi County.
At 1900HRS we left the City to Kenyatta university conference centre where we enjoyed an Arsenal win against Manchester United closing our day with a smile.
