At the launch of the , Chief Guest Rt. Rev. Bishop Antony Zziwa, representing the Uganda Episcopal Conference, delivered a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and restore our environment.
Reflecting on the changing rainfall patterns and prolonged dry seasons being experienced across different parts of Uganda, from Mityana, Masaka to Karamoja - Bishop Zziwa highlighted the connection between environmental degradation and the weakening of our natural ecosystems.
He pointed to the continued loss of forests, widespread tree cutting and charcoal burning as signs of the pressure being placed on our natural environment. As forests disappear, so do some of the natural systems that support rainfall, agriculture, livelihoods and communities.
He challenged us to look beyond planting trees to understanding their long-term value and taking responsibility for their survival.
“Planting a tree is not the end. We must continue to water, nurture and protect it.”
This is at the heart of the - a commitment to restoring degraded land, growing trees and mobilizing communities and partners to take meaningful action for a greener and more sustainable Uganda.
As we launch this programme, the call is clear: let us join hands to restore creation and protect Mother Earth for generations to come.
