Consumerism mentality
The wish for ownership is endless. We do want to have as much as possible. Although we could live with a few things, we want many things in our possession. There are two ways to accommodate what we want: we can reduce our appetite for things or increase our income.
Most of us want to be wealthy and have financial freedom, but 95% of us have a consumer mentality because we don’t value wealth itself.
The remaining 5% genuinely value wealth and have built successful businesses and live the lifestyle they want to live.
What’s the difference?:
When the wealth minded 5% receive $1, they invest it for their financial future – delayed gratification but more rewards.
The other consumer minded 95% will spend the $1 on a product that they can consume – immediate gratification.
The wish to possess as much as we can is leading us to consumerism mentality. But if you are tempted to buy something, before doing so ask yourself three questions.
Can I live without it?
Is there any substitute for that?
Can I buy anything cheaper?
