🌍 Partner Spotlight | x

At AIC, we believe the future of agriculture insurance will be driven by data, technology, and smarter decision-making. Through our partnership with we are leveraging AI and satellite intelligence to improve operational efficiency and strengthen how insurance is delivered to farmers across Uganda.

Traditional assessments are often slow, costly, and difficult to scale. By integrating AI-powered with satellite intelligence , we are now able to support faster validations, improve accuracy in yield and loss estimation, and reduce basis risk across agricultural value chains.

This is more than innovation for efficiency, it is about building a smarter, more responsive insurance ecosystem that protects livelihoods and strengthens climate resilience for Uganda’s smallholder farmers.

🌱 Protect Your Farm. Protect Your Future.
Farming is full of opportunities but it also comes with risks. From droughts and floods to pests and disease outbreaks, one season can change everything for a farmer.
That’s why agricultural insurance matters. It helps farmers recover faster, protect their investments, and continue producing even after unexpected losses.
We are committed to expanding access to simple, inclusive, and farmer-centered insurance solutions across Uganda ensuring that crop farmers and livestock keepers are better prepared for climate and production risks.
Through the Uganda Agriculture Insurance Scheme (UAIS), more farmers can access protection that gives them confidence to invest, grow, and build resilient livelihoods.
Because when farmers are protected, communities, businesses, and food systems become stronger too. 🌾

Last week, we participated in the Uganda National Forum for Scaling Investment in Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS), organised under the (ACTT) Project and co-hosted by UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre FAO United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Mercycorps Uganda GGGI Africa and support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark

The forum brought together policymakers, financiers, technology providers, insurers, agribusinesses, and development partners to discuss pathways for scaling climate-smart irrigation solutions for Uganda’s smallholder farmers.👩🏾‍🌾

During the panel discussion on innovative financing models and aggregator partnerships, our Business Development Lead Atukunda Attra Juditha highlighted the important role insurance can play in de-risking the SPIS ecosystem and enabling sustainable scale.

Key discussion points included:
🔹 Changing climate patterns are increasingly affecting farmers’ productivity and incomes due to prolonged dry spells and unreliable rainfall.
🔹 Climate shocks not only impact agricultural production, but also farmers’ ability to repay PAYGO solar irrigation equipment financing.💰
🔹 Insurance can serve as a critical risk-sharing and collateral mechanism protecting farmers, financiers, aggregators, and technology providers against climate-related losses.🌾
🔹 Aggregator partnerships remain essential for scaling access to SPIS technologies, improving farmer reach, and strengthening repayment ecosystems.
🔹 Sustainable scale requires integrated solutions that combine climate-smart technologies, blended finance, strong partnerships, and risk transfer mechanisms.
🔹 De-risking climate-smart agriculture investments is key to crowding in private sector financing and accelerating adoption among smallholder farmers.

Partnership Announcement 📣

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with the Rural Integrated Pastoralist Association (RIPA), marked by the official signing of a joint Memorandum of Understanding. 🫱🏿‍🫲🏾

RIPA’s work in supporting pastoralist communities aligns strongly with our own commitment to advancing sustainable development and strengthening community resilience. This collaboration represents a shared vision to deliver practical, locally grounded solutions that respond to the real needs of pastoralist households.👩🏾‍🌾

Through this partnership, we will extend the reach of Uganda’s Agriculture Insurance Scheme (UAIS) to pastoralist communities engaged under RIPA’s Livestock Distribution Programme   ensuring protection for high-value breeding livestock and safeguarding the livelihoods that depend on them. By reducing vulnerability to shocks and losses, this initiative will help build confidence, stability, and long-term productivity within these communities.

Together, we aim to drive tangible impact, strengthening livelihoods, improving access to essential services, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting sustainable resource management across pastoralist systems. 🫱🏿‍🫲🏾

Today, we conclude our series with a spotlight on the Karamoja sub-region.

Together with our partners, we supported the rollout of agriculture insurance across Karamoja to strengthen farmer resilience and improve risk management within farming systems.

📍 Working across both Northern and Southern Karamoja:

✅ Farmer groups were enrolled into insurance
✅ Farmers were trained on how the cover works
✅ Continuous support and sensitization were provided throughout the season

When adverse weather shocks occurred, insured farmers received claim payouts, providing timely financial relief that helped them recover and continue production.

Beyond payouts, regular refresher trainings and sensitization sessions helped farmers better understand:
🔹 How insurance works
🔹 Their role in the process
🔹 How the overall system is structured

This continuous engagement has played an important role in strengthening trust, transparency, and participation.

One of the clearest indicators of impact has been the strong rate of policy renewals across the sub-region ,a growing sign of confidence in agriculture insurance as a practical risk management tool.

📊 With over 1,000 farmers insured across the Karamoja rollout, we are witnessing a clear shift, From vulnerability to preparedness. From uncertainty to structured resilience through insurance 🫱🏿‍🫲🏾

This is exactly why we exist ,to build resilience for farmers across Uganda.
