“Other farmer groups asked us about the insurance program after hearing about the improvements in our productivity. My advice to them is to explore joining, so that we can all grow and develop together as farmers.”
Today Nabulime Aisha from Bugoma Farmers Group, Kayunga District farms differently.

With crop insurance, a bad season no longer means losing everything it means recovery, stability, and steady growth in her farm produce.
She’s now one of the farmers encouraging others in her community to take the same step, because protecting your farm shouldn’t be an afterthought.

📍WEEK IN FOCUS | Taking agriculture insurance closer to farmers

Across the regions, our teams have been on the ground engaging farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives and local agricultural stakeholders.

In Soroti and Kumi, the teams engaged the Palabet B Women, Awasi Tubur Multipurpose Cooperative Society and Emorikinos Farmer Groups , alongside engagements with District Agriculture Officers in Teso under the Multi stakeholder platforms.

In Yumbe, the focus was on training World Vision CBFs and farmers aimed at strengthening the local structures that can continue to support farmers with information on agriculture insurance.

And in Mbale, the team engaged Bungokho Multipurpose Cooperative, training farmers on how they can insure their crops and livestock, the insurance options available to them, and how they can access premium subsidies.

These engagements are important because farmers make better decisions when they have the right information what can be insured, how cover works, what it costs, and where support is available.

From farmer groups to cooperatives and district-level stakeholders, we are taking agriculture insurance closer to the people it is designed to protect.

You can never know the importance of having an agriculture insurance plan until you suffer loss of crops or animals as a result of unforeseen circumstances.

Meet Simon Magyar one of the many farmers whose farming journey has been transformed through agriculture insurance

“What does agriculture insurance mean to the farmers it protects?

Over the past 10 years, the true measure of our impact has been the lives behind every policy.

Meet Simon from Acau Karlo Farmer Group in Kotido District . After insuring his farm through the Uganda Agriculture Insurance Scheme, Simon received an insurance payout following a drought helping him recover and continue farming when it mattered most.

His story is one of many that demonstrate how agriculture insurance can strengthen resilience, protect livelihoods, and give farmers greater confidence to invest in agriculture.

🌱 This is what resilience looks like.

The difference between surviving a climate shock and recovering from one can change everything. From struggling through the aftermath of drought to rebuilding livelihoods, restoring productivity, and creating hope for the next generation, resilience is about giving farmers the ability to recover stronger.

For the past 10 years, this has been the purpose of the Uganda Agriculture Insurance Scheme (UAIS).
Protecting farmers from production risks.
Helping households recover after droughts, floods, and other shocks.
Safeguarding investments and livelihoods.
Giving farmers the confidence to plant and invest again.

This isn’t just one farmer’s story. Hundreds of thousands of farmers across Uganda have experienced this journey, building resilience through agriculture insurance and proving that a single shock doesn’t have to define a family’s future.

Over the last decade, together with our partners and stakeholders , we’ve shown that resilience is not simply surviving adversity, it’s recovering stronger.

Ten years on, our mission remains the same;- building resilient farming communities, one farmer at a time.

🌱 Ten years ago, we started with a simple question;-
How can Uganda protect smallholder farmers from climate and production risks in a way that makes agriculture more bankable, resilient, and attractive to both farmers and financial institutions?

That question sparked a decade-long journey to strengthen resilience in Uganda’s agricultural sector and expand access to agriculture insurance for smallholder farmers.

In FY2016/17, the Government of Uganda launched the Uganda Agriculture Insurance Scheme (UAIS), a Public-Private Partnership as a pilot initiative to provide a safety net for farmers, protecting them against production risks while making agriculture a more secure and attractive investment. Over the past decade, we have worked to design and scale insurance solutions that help farmers better manage climate and production risks

Together, we have achieved:
1 million+ farmers reached with agriculture insurance products and services.

UGX 53.8+ billion paid in claims, helping farmers recover from shocks.

Coverage expanded to all districts/regions across Uganda.

Strengthened data-driven climate risk solutions to improve product design, pricing, and targeting.

Promoted inclusive financial protection for women, youth, and smallholder farmers.

Advanced innovation in climate and agriculture insurance systems to build a more resilient future.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our member insurers, the Government of Uganda, partner institutions and, most importantly, the farmers and communities who continue to inspire our work every day.

As we celebrate 10 years of the Uganda Agriculture Insurance Scheme, we reflect with gratitude on how far we’ve come and look ahead with renewed commitment to building even stronger, more inclusive, and more resilient agricultural systems for Uganda.

Here’s to the next decade of protecting livelihoods, strengthening resilience, and growing together.

Exploring Key Conversations around Climate Resilience and Financial Inclusion in the agriculture sector at the Symposium on Digital Market and Financial Spaces, convened by World Vision Uganda

We had the opportunity to share with farmers on why Agriculture Insurance is becoming increasingly important.

Agriculture Insurance is more than a financial product it is a resilience tool. It helps farmers recover from unexpected losses, protects investments made throughout the season, improves access to finance, and gives producers the confidence to continue investing in agriculture despite growing climate risks.

As digital solutions continue to reshape agriculture, they also present an opportunity to make insurance more accessible, more efficient, and more inclusive for farmers across the country.

We appreciate World Vision Uganda
for creating this platform for meaningful dialogue on building a more inclusive and resilient agricultural sector through innovation, partnerships, and risk management.

Under this year’s theme, “Agri-Leap to Middle Income: 10-Fold Strategy through Farm Innovation and Agro-Industrialisation,” the focus is on
✅Accelerating agricultural transformation through innovation
