New Bukumbi Coffee Processors

New Bukumbi Coffee Processors New Bukumbi Coffee (NBC) is a registered limited liability company incorporated in the Republic of Uganda.

We are exporters of organically grown Ugandan premium and specialty Arabica produced in line with the “sustainable coffees” model which is premised on four pillars; traceability, quality, productivity enhancement and financial accountability. Specializing in specialty Arabica coffees, our company owns and operates a primary coffee processing facility and a fully fledged wet mill in the foothills

of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges at Kazingo Parish in Bukuuku Sub-County, Burahya County in Kabarole district approximately 10km on the Fort Portal-Bundibugyo Road. Through a number of farmers groups who we supply with equipment, we also operate seven different micro wet stations. The Rwenzori Mountain range where our processing facility is located, stretches 120 kilometers long and 65 kilometers wide between Lake Albert and Lake George and is among the areas renowned for producing good Arabica coffee which grows best at altitudes over 1,500 meters above sea level. We commenced operations in this area with the intention of harnessing this tremendous potential by catering to the local farming communities in the surrounding districts of Kabarole, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo through the provision of an opportunity for quality enhancement and value addition achieved through best agricultural practices. Our plant is the only operational coffee processing facility in entire Kabarole and Ntoroko Districts which together cover more than 90 kilometers of the length of the mountain. The plant has two processing lines with an installed capacity of 16MT per 8-hour shift also making it among the biggest primary processing plants in the sub region. After hulling the coffee at our factory, further processing takes place in Kampala before the coffee is exported. Our company is registered with Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) as a coffee processor and has an established network of 32 parish based farmer groups who are fully registered CBO’s with a total membership exceeding 2,500 coffee farmers in 9 sub-counties of Kabarole. The network continues to expand in Ntoroko, Kyenjojo and Bundibugyo Districts. VISION
Our Vision is to turn Kabarole and the surrounding areas into highly rated producers of best quality coffee by harnessing the synergies between the different stakeholders in the value chain

* Processing

There are two processing methods.

Natural processing:

After floating and hand-picking the red cherry, we lay it directly under the sun.
When dry, it then becomes what we call, Kiboko.

Let’s tell you a story of the coffee journey from a seedling to your table.

* Maturity- A coffee tree takes 5 years before it starts to bear fruit. The tree bares white flowers in a season where there is no fruit from the tree, and forms fruits that resemble ripe cherries, which are later harvested.

Coffee usually grows for 6-7 months every year before harvesting can begin. In Uganda, the coffee growing season is usually between January to July.

It is said that coffee was discovered in Ethiopia by a goat herder. He observed a change in his goats’ behaviour after watching them eat coffee beans. The goats became more energetic and would not sleep at night. Excited and amazed, he ran to share the story with the local monks and together they made a drink out of the coffee beans which enabled them to stay up all night and pray. And just like that, the word was spread around and here we are today.

Thank you Ethiopia. Thank you goats. You are the G.O.A.T!!
