Eucalyptus trials reveal more than timber - they reveal climate opportunity

Here in Ntenjeru, we’re walking through the eucalyptus plots, taking soil samples, measuring tree growth, and observing every detail. Every tree, every measurement, every observation contributes to a bigger story: how eucalyptus affects soil health, stores carbon, and supports local biodiversity.

As we collect this data, the patterns start to emerge—showing clearly how well-managed eucalyptus forests can restore land, strengthen ecosystems, and create real economic opportunities for farmers. It’s hands-on evidence that forestry can be both sustainable and profitable.

Being in the field, seeing the trees, touching the soil, and tracking the results—this is where climate solutions begin. Every insight we gather here in Ntenjeru brings us one step closer to actionable, meaningful impact.

Burning weeds today, losing soil tommorow ?

During a visit to a sugar cane farm in Mukono, we found the farmer burning the weeds to clear for expanding his sugar cane field - a common practice that risks soil health, reduces biodiversity and releases carbon in the atmosphere.

This is exactly the type of situation where regenerative practices can make a difference:

Leaving residues on the soil instead of burning

Mulching to retain moisture and prevent erosion

Gradually adding compost from on-farm materials

Our team will work with the farmer to transition to these regenerative methods, helping him protect the soil, improve fertility and build resilience step by step, season by season.

Over time these practices will be measured and verified for carbon sequestration, opening opportunities for carbon credits that reward sustainable farming and climate action.

🌾 What if the waste on your farm could become your biggest financial reward?

On our 3-acre pilot in Northern Uganda, the field is partly ploughed in the center, with grass still growing on the sides.
Right now, the farmer faces a simple but powerful choice — burn the residue, or put it to work.

💰 Immediate Win:
We’re testing how managing residue differently can save costs — keeping moisture in the soil, protecting it from erosion, and reducing dependence on expensive synthetic fertilizers.

📈 Long-Term Value:
Through SoilPulse’s verified regenerative system, these choices will be tracked for real soil carbon gains — transforming better soil care into measurable, financial rewards for

Every action taken here is a step toward a future where farmers earn more by restoring the land.
That’s how we’re proving that climate finance can start right from the soil beneath our feet. 🌍

Everyone talks about 'regenerative agriculture.' We're about to prove it.

Our journey begins on a two-acre plot in Arapai Sub-county, Uganda, where we’ve placed a bet against a century of conventional wisdom. We're working with a farmer to test a simple, scalable thesis: that local, regenerative farming practices, when combined with real-time data, can be a powerful engine for both environmental and economic change.

This is a true pilot project. We are working with a farmer to transition his freshly tilled land for planting sweet potatoes. The method is simple: using cover crops and mulching to restore the soil. The farmer does the work, and our data collection does the watching. We've established baselines using GPS and satellite imagery to monitor changes in soil and crop health over time. This week, we're focused on documenting this initial phase before the rainy season begins.

"This is about making the land better for my children. It's about a future where we don't have to worry about our soil," a farmer in the project shared with us. His hope is our mission.

Our biggest lesson so far? This isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Each farmer's journey is unique, and our approach must be adaptive. The challenge is showing a measurable return on investment, not just for the farmer, but for the soil itself.

Our vision is clear: to use the data and powerful stories from this project to build a transparent and verifiable framework. This framework will be the key that unlocks access to carbon and sustainable finance markets for thousands of other smallholder farmers, creating a scalable model for prosperity.

Stay tuned for more updates as we document this incredible journey!
