“Save money. Buy a house. Work hard.” That’s what everyone grew up hearing, right? The truth is, that advice only works in a world where the rules don’t change. Today, the rules have changed, and the system quietly favors the wealthy.
Take real estate, for example. The old advice says, “Buy a home, pay it off, live comfortably.” In reality, homes don’t always make you rich. The middle class buys houses they can barely afford, while the wealthy buy multiple properties, commercial buildings, and rental homes that generate income every month. Banks lend billions to those who turn debt into assets. They give you a mortgage for one house. They give the rich money for hundreds. “The borrower is slave to the lender.” — Proverbs 22:7. Debt can enslave or multiply, depending on how you use it.
Look at the last recession. While most people lost homes and jobs, the wealthy bought undervalued properties for pennies, turning crisis into opportunity. That wasn’t luck — that was wisdom in action.
Fast forward to today: young adults buried in student loans, families struggling with inflation, and the middle class trapped in consumption debt. Who pays the cost? You. Through rising prices, high taxes, and shrinking purchasing power.
But God reminds us: “The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.” — Proverbs 10:14, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” — Proverbs 16:3.
You can play this game too. You don’t need millions to start. You need wisdom, faith, and action. Buy assets, not liabilities. Use debt wisely. Honor God in your finances. Let money serve you, not enslave you. Following old rules in a new system keeps many in chains, but walking in wisdom and faith sets you free.
