Deep ocean water is cold and densely packed with nutrients from decomposed organic matter. When surface water is pushed away by wind and currents, this nutrient-rich deep water rises to take its place. This process, known as upwelling, acts as a biological spark that triggers massive blooms of life. These nutrient hotspots are essential for the survival of migratory species and top predators, providing the abundant food supply required to maintain a balanced food web.

Tourism depends on the ocean, but the ocean’s health is often the "hidden cost" of travel. From anchor damage to chemical runoff from sunscreens, our holiday habits leave a trace. We believe the industry can be a promoter of preservation rather than a consumer of resources. When travelers and residents actively participate in conservation and restoration, we become effective parts the marine ecosystem. Real sustainability is not only doing less harm; it's about actively giving back to the water that hosts us.

The ocean acts as a giant sponge, absorbing about 30% of the $CO2 humans produce. While this helps our atmosphere, it triggers a chemical reaction that lowers the water's pH. This "acidification" makes it physically harder for corals and crustaceans to build their calcium carbonate skeletons. To combat this locally, Team Sea Garden focuses on seagrass, which can absorb $CO2 up to 20 times faster than land forests, helping to buffer and balance the water's chemistry.

Art, nature and conservation came together beautifully with JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa . After an inspiring evening at Drift Beach Bar & Grill , three brownbanded bamboo sharks from our Bamboo Shark Nursery were released into the Andaman Sea, each nurtured from egg to ocean over six months of care.

We’re grateful for this meaningful collaboration and shared commitment to marine stewardship.
