Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Publi
c Organization)
From 1992 to 1996, the Thai economy showed the continuous development and growth. Amid the rapid development in Thailand, our neighboring countries still confronted several problems of economic development and poverty, thereby leading to greater disparities in social and economic development. Under an aim of the government to ensure sustainable development of the sub-region, the Neighboring Countries Economic Development Fund, or NEDF, has been established in 1996, as an agency under the Fiscal Policy Office, Ministry of Finance. Its primary task is to provide financial support to strengthen the neighboring economies. In 2005, the Thai government modernized and strengthened efficiency of NEDF through organizational restructuring, which would lead to greater flexibility in its operations. This eventually led to the establishment of Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency, or NEDA. NEDA, or the Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency, is Thailand’s international development aid agency, established officially on May 27, 2005, as a public organization, under supervision by the Minister of Finance.
