Pi is launching its first smart contract capability on Pi Testnet: subscriptions. This fosters use cases that map directly to real products and recurring utility-driven services such as e-commerce, streaming, online tools, and more. While subscriptions are commonly used by traditional Web2 businesses, they have been difficult to implement to achieve frictionless user experience on blockchain systems due to tradeoffs such as repeated authorization, total budget payment, off-chain coordination, or added account infrastructure. Pi addresses this challenge with a design that supports recurring payments without giving up the wallet-level control that blockchain systems are meant to preserve or sending out the full budget. With a new Pi Request for Comment (PiRC2) now published on Github, developers are encouraged to try integrating subscriptions in their own apps, review the subscription contract design, and test for bugs or edge cases, if any.

The Pi smart contract is not entirely copied from Stellar. Once completed, it will be subject to an external audit. Pi Launchpad is currently on Testnet, and when it moves to Mainnet, the DEX mainnet will also officially go live.

Pi Day 2026 marks the 7th anniversary of the Pi Network. On this occasion, the development team announced a series of new features, products and important updates aimed at expanding the utility and increasing community participation across the ecosystem.

Pi Launchpad has released its Minimum Viable Product (MVP) on Testnet, based on Design #1 of the previously released PiRC Proposal. As this is a new concept with a different mechanism from typical Web3 token launches, Pi chose to release it on Testnet first so that the community can understand and become familiar with how it works before deploying it on Mainnet.

The central idea of ​​Pi Launchpad is that tokens are not issued to raise funds, but to attract real users and create utility within the products. Pi generated from token launches will be placed in a shared liquidity pool with the ecosystem token, rather than going to the project team.

From a developer perspective, this helps solve the first difficult challenge of user acquisition, especially for startups looking to access Pi's vast global user base, including crypto users and mainstream users, many of whomhave already completed an identity check.

From Pioneer's perspective, the platform provides transparent and fair access to tokens while creating a feedback loop between users and products.

Additionally, Pi Launchpad supports the ecosystem's decentralized exchange (DEX) by creating real utility tokens and liquidity, helping prevent meaningless or purely speculative tokens from flooding the exchange. The overall design of Pi Launchpad may further evolve based on community feedback and data collected during the Testnet phase.
