8 years ago, Anouck Gotlib, CEO of Belgian Boys, was told to stay in the frozen section, but her instincts told her, her products should be sold refrigerated next to breakfast staples like eggs, milk, yogurt, and orange juice. Now, Belgian Boys has taken Pancake Cereal, a Tiktok trend with over a billion views, and brought it to life in a ready-made product in the refrigerated section.

Can you as a founder effectively demonstrate that you can sell your product, service, or solution even in challenging economic times?

Even in difficult times, consumers are still buying products and services, they are just being more selective. Oftentimes, companies succumb to the pitfall of thinking that a great product will naturally sell itself—and very rarely is that true.

The companies that can sell and drive revenue will be the ones who continue to get funded because they will be able to demonstrate continued growth in the most demanding environments.

Aspiring entrepreneurs are facing a worrying trend: venture capital (VC) funding is drying up. Opportunities to fundraise are still there if founders can demonstrate they can make it happen despite tight market conditions.

The current macroeconomic environment is driving up the cost of capital, making venture capitalists more reserved about the investments they are willing to make. Fortunately for founders, there are still opportunities to fundraise. However, the rules of the game have changed and founders must respond accordingly.

Here are five things to keep in mind in 2023:
-Shorten your window to profitability and self-fund
-Create a balance
-Get good at selling
-Look outside of traditional VC sources
-Leverage all factors within your control
