Increase in Childcare Leave and Enhanced Government Reimbursement

At Singapore’s National Day Rally 2026 on 23 August, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced that the Government will enhance childcare leave entitlements and provide greater support for employers.

Under the new Childcare Leave scheme, each eligible working parent with Singapore Citizen children aged 12 and below will receive:
• 8 days for one child
• 10 days for two children
• 12 days for three or more children

The Government will also cover the cost of all child-related leave, subject to the applicable reimbursement limits.

For businesses, these upcoming changes may require updates to leave policies, Employee Handbooks, payroll processes and reimbursement procedures.

"Surviving a World at a Loss."

Under this theme, RT ASEAN Singapore's leadership came together at Capella Singapore on 15 August 2026 for our Management Strategy Meeting, a full-day session dedicated to charting how we move forward in a business landscape shaped by disruption and uncertainties.

Throughout the day, the leaders presented their strategic plans for the coming financial year, and forward. Each leaders addressed how their teams intend to navigate change and turn uncertainty into opportunity.

The meeting was led by Mr. Ravi Arumugam, FCA, CVA, CEO & Managing Partner of RT ASEAN Singapore, with discussions centred on navigating today's disruptions and reinforcing our shared direction for the future.

Three strategic pillars of RT ASEAN, Singapore, anchored the conversation:

Continuous learning is at the heart of developing leaders who can navigate change, inspire others, and create lasting impact.
 
We are pleased to share that Mr. Chip Wan Lim, Mr. Elton Man, Mr. Stanley Hu, and Ms. May Loong recently represented RT ASEAN at the BKR International Asia Pacific Future Leaders Program 2026.
 
The programme brought together professionals from BKR member firms across the Asia-Pacific region through a leadership series that comprised three supplementary virtual sessions, culminating in a final in-person session held in Phuket, Thailand, on 24–25 July 2026.
 
Held under the theme ”Disrupt Everything: Innovate for Impact (DEI),” the last session in Phuket provided participants with opportunities to deepen their leadership capabilities, exchange ideas, gain new perspectives, and build meaningful connections with fellow professionals from across the region.

RT ASEAN was pleased to attend the launch of the Professional Services (PS) Centre in Singapore on 21 July 2026, where Ms. Jessie Goh represented the firm. It was officially launched by Guest-of-Honour, Ms. Indranee Rajah, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for National Development, and hosted by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) at ISCA House.

The launch marks an important milestone in strengthening collaboration across the professional services ecosystem, bringing together experts from accounting, legal, tax, HR, valuation, sustainability, AI, and other advisory disciplines to better support businesses in navigating today's evolving landscape.

The biggest change to your income statement in over 20 years is almost here.

FRS 118 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements takes effect for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027 — replacing FRS 1 and reshaping how every entity presents its P&L.

What's changing:
📊 Income and expenses must be classified into defined operating, investing and financing categories — with two new mandatory subtotals: operating profit, and profit before financing and income taxes
📈 "Adjusted EBITDA" and other management-defined performance measures used in your public communications must now be disclosed in the notes, reconciled line-by-line with tax and NCI effects
🔍 Tighter rules on aggregation and labelling — "other expenses" will no longer hide the details, and new disclosures of specified expenses by nature apply
