Now.. Precision still kinda consistent but my strength is failing me.

Today I attended the funeral of one of my bestest & oldest client.

16 years in industry & my 1st Death Claim.
Friends used to joke if Im a fortune cat. Maybe.
But a resembling sadness overcame today.

Uncle Victor has been battling with cancer since after covid days.
He was probably the kindest, greatest family man I ever met.

Just last month, auntie asked him who am I, he weakly called out my name and managed to twitch a smile.
I still told him I'll come over again in 2 weeks.
This sentence has been looping in my head.

At the wake, there's 3 generations.
Wife, Children & Grandchildren.

Entire family portfolio has already been taken care of.
Not because something happened today, but because planning has been made when life was still normal.

My role now turned from adviser to protector.
To look after his beloved wife carefully, exactly the way he trusted me to.

See if you can meet my Papa who's abit earlier.
You will like him too.

Rest in peace Uncle.

But avoided my own.

Discomfort of knowing.

But because a personal dateline has been set.

A Singaporean dad legally lost USD 3 million.
And his children were left with debt.

If you own US stocks like Microsoft, Apple, Google or US listed ETFs,
Welcome to the club.

He never lived in the US.
Never worked there.
Never even holidayed there.

Like many Singaporeans, he simply invested wisely.

When he passed on, his portfolio hit a record high of USD 3 million.

What most investors don't realise is, non-US citizens are subject to up to 40% US estate tax.
Only USD 60K were exempted.

Tax bill came up to be USD 1.3 million
So family was forced to sell off

But just as they did,
their tech stocks crashed
Shares were worth less than the tax owed.

Instead of inheriting wealth,
His family inherited a liability.

The risk is real.
And that's why I structured US holdings differently

So that what we've built,
actually reaches the people we love.
