Many people initially set out to create the next Facebook or E-commerce ventures, copying the successful American companies' business strategies with some India-specific customizations. Many of the unicorns we have today were born as a result of this.
Even in 2019, most companies in India continued to serve the country's 20% rich and upper-middle-class people, with the majority of startups still being a metro phenomenon. Since their issues are very different, the remaining 80% of the population, which is our Bharat, is still underserved.
