There are moments in my coaching sessions where I say nothing at all.
We'll sit with the numbers. The activities. What's been working, what hasn't.
And instead of jumping in with an answer, I stay silent.
It's tempting to fill that gap. To tell them exactly what they're doing wrong and what to fix. That's the fast way. It feels productive. But it's not how people grow.
When I give a consultant the answer, they walk away with my solution. When I give them space to sit with the problem, they walk away with their own. And their own solution is the one they'll remember, the one they'll reach for the next time they hit the same wall.
So I ask questions instead. I point them back to their own numbers, their own activities. I let them connect the dots.
It's slower. It's less satisfying in the moment, for both of us.
But it's how you build consultants who can think for themselves, not ones who need me in the room every time something goes wrong.
That's the kind of coach I want to be. Not the guy with all the answers. I want to be the guy who gives you room to find yours.
