Gubernatorial Candidate Wants to Make Colorado a ‘Blockchain Hub’
The Democratic candidate for governor of Colorado, U.S Representative Jared Polis, has added a blockchain policy to the list of issues of his gubernatorial campaign this year, according to an announcement on Polis’ website.

Having set a goal to establish Colorado as a “national hub for blockchain innovation in business and government,” Polis added a set of blockchain-related proposals to his gubernatorial platform on Wednesday.In his campaign, Polis advocates for implementing five blockchain-related initiatives, such as developing cybersecurity infrastructure to ensure the integrity of elections, and building a statewide ‘safe harbor’ to exempt digital currencies from state money transmission laws.

Barclays Sponsors Blockchain Hackathon to Explore Derivatives Contracts Processing

British investment bank Barclays is sponsoring a hackathon to find the best blockchain solution to increase the efficiency of derivatives contracts processing, according to an announcement published August 9. Barclays is partnering with other market majors like Deloitte, the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) and Thomson Reuters for the event.

At the two-day DerivHack hackathon, participants will be given an opportunity to implement their ideas and apply the ISDA Common Domain Model (CDM) to distributed ledger technology. The final goal of the event is to find solutions to use cases in post-trade processing of derivatives contracts.

Omniex Appoints Former SEC and FDIC Execs to Board of Advisors
Institution-oriented crypto trading platform Omniex has expanded its staff with high profile experts, including former execs of major U.S. financial regulators, according to a press release

Omniex has appointed former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman Arthur Levitt and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC) chair Sheila Bair as members of the board of advisors.The cryptocurrency trading firm also announced that Maartje Bus, former head of capital markets at Thomson Reuters, has joined Omniex as director of strategic partnerships, while Tom Eidt, former head of KCG's regulatory affairs was appointed as chief compliance officer and general counsel.

Crypto Trading App Robinhood Adds Support for Ethereum Classic
Commission-free crypto trading app Robinhood has listed Ethereum Classic (ETC), according to an official announcement Monday, Aug. 6. Robinhood customers can also invest in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (B*H), Litecoin (LTC), and Dogecoin (DOGE), as well as monitor market data for ten other cryptocurrencies.

Currently available in 19 states of the U.S., Robinhood crypto trading app was launched in February, 2018, initially listing Bitcoin and Ethereum, and available only in four states. On July 12, Robinhood launched support for Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin, just a few days prior to the introduction of Dogecoin.
Robinhood originally intended to operate its zero-fee business “on break even basics” and does not “plan to profit from it for the foreseeable future,” giving priority to expanding its customer base instead.

US: Chair of House Judiciary Committee Discloses Ownership of Cryptocurrency
The chair of the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives may be the first member of Congress to disclose that he owns cryptocurrency, Sludge reports.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) reported that he owns between $17,000 and $80,000 in digital currency in his annual Financial Disclosure Statement. Goodlatte filed the statement on May 10, a month before the U.S. Ethics Committee issued new rules about disclosing digital currency holdings.

Per the new rules, all House Members must disclose their own and their spouse’s crypto holdings valued over $1,000, and report over $1,000 worth of crypto transactions within 45 days. According to the statement, the Congressman has principally invested in Bitcoin (BTC), with some holdings in major altcoins Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin Cash (B*H).
