How our journey started...
Credit Counselling Singapore has been helping debt-distressed individuals move on in life with peace of mind since 2004. While we promote the responsible use of credit to prevent one from falling into a debt trap, we also provide financial counselling, should you find yourself struggling with credit card and consumer debts. We can help you facilitate a repayment arrangement with your creditors through our Debt Management Programme (DMP), depending on your willingness and ability to repay your debts. In 2001, the idea of debt counselling was mooted when district judges from the State Courts expressed their concern over problems caused to debtors and families by rising consumer indebtedness. We started with a small team of dedicated volunteers who worked tireless to counsel individuals with problem debts. Their persistence eventually assuage the initial skepticism from the banking industry on the merits of credit counselling to help individuals repay their debts. Since then, we have grown into a social service agency with dedicated full-time staff committed to our social purpose, assisting many individuals through counselling, education and facilitating debt repayments.
We have been a member of the National Council of Social Service since June 2005.
In 2012, CCS received Special Mention, a recognition under the President's Challenge Social Enterprise Award.
CCS began operating as a Company Limited by Guarantee (“CLG”) since 1 July 2016 and continues to operate as a not-for-profit organisation and a registered Social Service Agency.
