Unlike those Ikigai diagram that advises on how we choose our career, this book talks about Ikigai from a totally different perspective and cover more areas of our life.

The book encourages us to pay attention to our feelings and ask ourselves why do we feel so. And if we continue to do so, we will find our reasons and the reasons will lead us to discover our Ikigai.

Scroll to read some good gems I found from the book.

At times, our minds tend to wander into the future, or that one great goal or great purpose we are striving for, or into the past where we deliberately try to change something, until a point that we forgot to enjoy the present.

Remember we live moment by moment.

Each individual moment, good or bad, has its own significance.

Be in the moment, enjoy the journey, live the life.

People tend to have an unhealthy relationship with ambition partly because they use it as a cover-up for their insecurities. Some people set goals to build successful business or secure prestigious titles in organization so they can prove something to their parents, etc.

Their ambitions are great, but their motivation is based more on insecurity than curiosity or self awareness.

Ask yourself what you want to achieve, and more important, why you want to achieve it.

Make sure you are working toward it for yourself, nobody else.

Humility is a requirement if we want to cultivate a lasting positive reputation and leave an admirable legacy.

There is this question that asked here that I can't stop thinking about it:

Would you want to have the people who know you the least think you're the best?

Or the people who know you the best think you're the worst?

Humility can keep us safe at all times.

When we follow our convictions against the society's pushback, one of two things will happen: either you'll be right, or you'll be happy you saw it through.

You can feel relieved that in your eighties or nineties you won't be asking yourself, "What if I'd taken the leap?"

want us to hold on to our convictions until the market tells us we are wrong. And when we are wrong, make adjustments with conviction too.

"If you're forcing yourself down a path just because you think you're going to make a million dollar by thirty and you don't, you''re setting yourself up for a major self-esteem issues at thirty-one."

I think all of us must read this sentence twice, especially when we are just one month after setting our infamous New Year Resolution. While we all agree that we should set goals with a specific deadline, we should never let the outcomes dictate our worthiness, NEVER!

There are just so many variables in this universe that is not within our control, and it is okay if at times we deviated from our paths due to circumstances.

While it is easier said than done, learning to enjoy the process will really help us to progress in many aspect of our lives, and having patience and belief in ourselves that we are going to make it, slowly but surely.

was right on social media, he was right on esports and gaming industry and he was right on NFTs. And he says his success is contributed by this ingredient: Curiosity.

Curiosity is the one ingredient that leads us to learn about new things. And I realise many of us have really lost it after achieving adulthood. Think about how when we first heard people are making money selling on Shopee, flipping jpeg etc, quite a number of us would immediately dismiss it as scam or boring.

But being curious and then put in the work to learn is the only way we can explore and discover new technologies, platforms or opportunities. And learning can come in different forms, we can learn by listening to friends, consuming contents on Instagram or Twitter, watching YouTubes, etc. Our curiosity should not be put off because of some high fees to be paid for some online guru courses.

Trust me, the resources are abundant if you start being curious and looking.

Tenacity = Hustle ≠ Burnout

I like that repeatedly emphasizes this point when talking about this ingredients. We all love the word hustle, work hard, grind especially in our financial community, but one problem always exists which is we always forget the balance between chasing our goals and rest.

More importantly, Gary wants us to ask ourselves: are the goals we delibrately chasing really what we want for ourselves?

Tenacity is essential if we want to become successful in anything, but it should never come at the expense of our peace of mind and happiness.

Being kind is easy when it's easy, but when you're under pressure it is tough. It is way easier to blast off and curse people out when you're stressed, but it takes internal strength to be the bigger man or woman, but it's an important trait that can differentiate you from others.

When you're empathetic, you recognise why people behave the way they do.

GaryVee says this is a powerful ingredient in business, because when we recognise and understand why people behave the way they do, we recognise future trends and future trends mean business opportunities. Look at how Gary is bullish on NFTs recently and all his previous success!

Empathy is also important in our relationship and life because it allows us to understand the other party and handle the situation better. Remember, we all come from different nuances, perspectives, cultures and backgrounds. It is normal to have conflicts and disagreements.
