Expara IDM Ventures was one of the first private incubators to be appointed under the Media Development Authority of Singapore's i.Jam Microfunding Scheme in 2007 and i.Jam Reload scheme in 2012. In 2012, Expara IDM Ventures became the first incubator in Southeast Asia to provide companies an incubation network spanning Singapore, Thailand and Europe. Expara is currently expanding its enterprise reach across the Southeast Asian region to include new verticals like social impact, bio-technology and renewable technology. Our existing partner network spans in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Czech Republic and Norway. Expara has close ties with two entities: Extream Ventures Pte Ltd, a S$20 million early-stage venture fund supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) under the Early Stage Venture Funding Scheme and Red Dot Ventures Pte Ltd, one of the appointed NRF-TIS incubators (Technology Incubation Scheme) in Singapore.

INSIDE THE SEED FUND: KHI NGƯỜI TRONG CUỘC NÓI VỀ CUỘC CHƠI

Khi một làn sóng công nghệ bùng nổ, thị trường luôn đầy những câu chuyện về cơ hội. Nhưng thực tế, phần lớn startup không thất bại vì họ đi chậm mà vì họ hiểu sai cách thị trường và dòng tiền vận hành trong những giai đoạn biến động đó.

STOP WASTING TIME SENDING 100+ MEANINGLESS EMAILS!

Most founders are under the illusion that fundraising is a numbers game—the more emails you send, the higher your chances of securing investment.

The reality? The highest quality deals never come from a "cold" inbox. They come from Access.

Take a look at the 3 levels of accessing capital (or partners) today:

❌ Option 1: Mass Outreach (Cold Outreach)
"You blast 100 identical emails to 100 investors."

The Result: 99% end up in the spam folder.

The Signal: "Low-signal"—Investors see desperation and a lack of research. It suggests you don't know how to build a targeted funnel.

⚠️ Option 2: Brokered Intro
"You go through a third party to get an introduction."

The Result: You might get a response, but the information is often "noisy."

The Issue: It’s still a "cold" start for the relationship. If the referrer is just "doing a favor" rather than vouching for the tech, the signal is diluted. It gets you the meeting, but rarely the check.

✅ Option 3: Direct Relationship Building (Non-brokered Access)
"This is how 'top-tier' founders operate. You build trust before you actually need the capital."

The Signal: "High-signal"—An extremely strong validation.

Why it works: You aren't asking for money; you’re sharing milestones with people who already respect your work. By the time you "ask”, the investor is already convinced of the trajectory. It transforms the pitch from a "sale” into an "update”.

💠 A good deal is "bought" with Trust, not with Spam. Instead of knocking on 100 strangers' doors, focus on being present in the ecosystem where investors already stand.

SOUTHEAST ASIA'S LIQUIDITY BOTTLENECK

If there is one priority defining the investor landscape today, it is the liquidity of the Exit.

While funding announcements grab the headlines, the reality of venture capital recycling tells a different story. According to 2025 regional data, the Southeast Asian exit landscape is structurally dependent on M&A, which now captures a staggering 94% of the $61 billion total exit value.

While IPOs showed a slight rebound in 2025, they contributed a mere 6% ($3.66B) to the regional total. The bottleneck is even more pronounced in Vietnam, where M&A accounts for 95% of the $8.72 billion exit market, leaving IPOs as a tiny 5% sliver of value.

With over 2,150 deals across SEA compared to a fraction of that in public debuts, this heavy tilt toward acquisitions limits exit diversity and remains a significant hurdle for fluid capital recycling.

At the UII Investment Stakeholders Session today, we highlighted why Vietnam is poised to break this cycle in 2026. A big thanks to UEH Institute of Innovation for hosting such an insightful gathering!
