Elon Musk’s xAI introduced Grok-3, an advanced AI chatbot that makes a notable leap from its predecessor. During a live-streamed demo to nearly 100,000 viewers, Musk highlighted the team’s commitment to deep understanding and empathy—qualities reflected in the name “Grok,” borrowed from Robert Heinlein’s “Stranger in a Strange Land.” Benchmark tests show that Grok-3 surpasses well-known AI models, including Google’s Gemini 2 Pro, DeepSeek V3, and OpenAI’s GPT-4o, particularly in science, coding, and math.
One key enhancement is its boosted computing power, reportedly ten times greater than Grok-2’s. Another standout feature is the DeepSearch tool, which offers transparent, step-by-step explanations—similar to a solution from Perplexity AI. xAI quickly scaled its data center capacity to meet Grok-3’s demands, securing over 100,000 GPUs in just a few months. Rolling out first to Premium+ subscribers on X (formerly Twitter), the chatbot is also available under a new SuperGrok plan for broader access.
