SEYCHELLES PARTICIPATES IN REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON CHEMICAL SECURITY IN AFRICA.
Seychelles was represented at the Regional Workshop on Strengthening the Implementation and Enforcement of Chemical Security Legislation in Africa, held from 6 to 8 October 2026 in Rabat, Morocco. The Seychelles delegation comprised of Mrs. Yvette Campanella Rumbos of the Seychelles Revenue Commission, together with representatives from the Trade Department and the Attorney General’s Office.
Organised by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW); in cooperation with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the workshop aimed to support African States Parties in strengthening national legal frameworks, enhancing enforcement mechanisms, and improving coordination among authorities responsible for chemical security.
The three-day workshop brought together representatives from National Authorities, law enforcement agencies, customs authorities, regulatory bodies, and judicial and prosecutorial institutions. Through technical training, scenario-based discussions, and tabletop exercises, participants explored practical approaches to addressing chemical security challenges, including cross-border enforcement and the prevention of the diversion of toxic chemicals for criminal or terrorist purposes.
Seychelles’ participation provided an opportunity to exchange experiences with regional counterparts and strengthen inter-agency cooperation in support of the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540(2004).
The workshop contributed to ongoing efforts to translate international commitments into effective national enforcement practices and strengthen chemical security across the African region.
