Tina River Hydro Project The Tina River Hydro Development Project (TRHDP) is a National Project of Solomon Islands.

The TRHDP is part of a broader initiative called Solomon Islands Sustainable Energy Project, SISEP, and has as its objective the provision of electricity for Honiara from indigenous renewable energy sources(hydro) to provide more affordable and reliable energy options to the capital.

The Bahomea and Malango Community Benefit Share Trust Fund Board of Trustees warmly invites all community members, partners, and stakeholders to our upcoming 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM)!

This is your opportunity to hear directly from the Trustees, get updates on project activities and sub-grants, share your views, and help us ensure transparency and accountability in managing our community benefits. Your voice and participation matter!

🏗️ NAME THE TUNNEL BORING MACHINE! 🏗️
Students from schools within the Tina Hydro Project site communities are invited to take part in a special naming competition for the Tunnel Boring Machine. This is your chance to be part of the project by suggesting a unique female name for the machine.

✨ Who can enter: Students from participating schools around the Tina Hydro Project site in Central Guadalcanal.

📝 What to submit: One unique female name for the Tunnel Boring Machine along with a story of why the name is being chosen. The name can be in your language and should also be translated in English. The meaning of the name should be carefully explained as it will be the significance of winning the competition.

📅 Closing date: 30th June 2026
🎉 Winners announced: In July 2026
🏆 Prizes: $10,000 in School Aid for the winning school donated by the Tina Hydro Project Office.

⚠️ Important: The name must be original, creative, and a female name. Students are encouraged to think of a name that reflects strength, pride, and significance for the Tina Hydro Project and the surrounding communities. Make sure when you submit your application do not forget which school you are applying for - one school gets two entries and the most creative and unique name proposed by the schools’ wins!!

🌱 We're Hiring! Join Tina Hydropower Limited as an Environmental & social assistant 🌱.

🏞️ Location: Tina River Hydropower Project, Central Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands

Role: Support the E&S Manager in environmental and social monitoring, compliance, and stakeholder engagement during the construction of the hydropower dam and powerhouse.

🎓 Requirements:
• University degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Law, or similar
• 3+ years’ experience (hydropower/energy infrastructure preferred)
• Experience with environmental reporting & compliance
• Strong relationship-building skills
• Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
• Familiarity with Solomon Islands’ environment & culture is a plus📝

Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinate ESIA review & approval
• Prepare E&S management plans
• Oversee implementation of E&S measures
• Support grievance redress mechanism
• Assist with site supervision & reporting
• Liaise with stakeholders🌍 Preference given to:
• Applicants from Bahomea & Malango (Central Guadalcanal)
• Solomon Island nationals

At the Tina River Hydropower Project, the safety and wellbeing of every worker is considered paramount. This commitment goes beyond physical safety to ensure all workers are treated with dignity, respect, and protected from all forms of harm. On Tuesday, 5 May 2026, the Project’s SEAH Focal Team delivered a Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH) awareness training session at the Workers’ Accommodation Camp in Garivera.

The Tina River Hydropower Development Project (TRHDP) reached a significant environmental and social governance milestone on 30 April 2026, with the convening of the Annual Meeting of the Regional Cumulative Impacts Working Group (RCIWG) and Cumulative Impact Assessment Workshop at the Heritage Park Hotel, Honiara. The gathering formally established the RCIWG as a binding multi-agency mechanism under the 2024 Cumulative Impacts Management Strategy (CIMS), fulfilling a key commitment under the Project's Concessional Finance Parties agreements.

Community Benefit Sharing Trust Fund (CBSTF) Board Members visit Tina Hydro Dam Site.

On 19 April 2026, members of the CBSTF Board of Trustees (BoT), Project Management Unit (PMU) staff, the Tina Hydro Project Office, and the Fund Management Office (FMO) participated in a field visit to the Tina River Hydropower Project (TRHP) dam site. The visit provided an important opportunity for the BoT to observe project progress firsthand and deepen their understanding and appreciation of the project landscape and future implications for the Tina communities.

🌿🦜 Strengthening Biodiversity Partnerships on Guadalcanal

The Tina Hydro Development Project-Project Office and our concessional funding partners from World Bank, and Asian Development Bank recently conducted a site visit to Toledo Zoo at GPPOL 2, Guadalcanal Province.

This is part of the ongoing engagement to support biodiversity conservation and environmental stewardship activities linked to the Tina River Hydropower Development Project. The visit was accompanied by representatives from Stantec NZ, and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) team members.
