DBSI PARTNERS WITH PARADISE TECHNOLOGIES TO SLASH POWER COSTS AND REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT.

As global fuel prices continue to surge, Solomon Islands businesses are feeling the pressure of rapidly rising electricity costs. The cost of power has climbed from $5.45 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in February to over $8.00 per kWh in June — an increase of nearly 47 percent in just four months. In response to this growing challenge, the Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) has taken a decisive step forward by partnering with Paradise Technologies Solomon Islands Limited to implement energy-saving solutions across its operations.
On Friday, 5th June 2025, DBSI and Paradise Technologies Solomon Islands Limited — a member of the Paradise Group — formalized their partnership by signing a comprehensive energy supply agreement. Under the agreement, Paradise Technologies will supply, install, and maintain energy-efficient lighting and electrical equipment, including AC and Solar Solutions, across DBSI’s premises.
A standout feature of this arrangement is the zero-upfront-cost model. DBSI will not make any initial capital outlay. Instead, the monthly repayments will be drawn directly from the savings generated by the new energy-efficient system. This innovative financing structure ensures there is no additional pressure on DBSI’s cash flow, with a projected return on investment (ROI) period of 24 months.
Mr. Aisake Radu, Chief Executive Officer of DBSI, welcomed the agreement and highlighted its importance for the bank’s financial sustainability:
“This agreement and partnership is quite timely. Our power bills across our two premises currently quite high per month — and with electricity rates rising, that fixed cost is only going to increase. With this project, we are not paying anything upfront. Paradise Technologies will buy, install, and maintain the system, and we will repay the investment from our savings —per month. The payback period is around 24 months, and it does not significantly impact our budget. Beyond the financial benefits, we are also making a positive contribution to the environment by reducing our carbon footprint.”

Mr. Nivaskar Narayan, Chief Operating Officer of Paradise Technologies, outlined the expected outcomes of the new system:
“We are expecting savings of close to 50 percent in kilowatt-hour consumption. We will begin by monitoring current energy consumption using our installed meters, and we will share detailed reports with DBSI as the new system is implemented. Our approach focuses on kilowatt savings, as electricity rates continue to fluctuate — meaning the financial benefit will only grow as rates rise.”
The agreement was formally signed by Mr. Nathaniel Dawea, representing Paradise Technologies, and Mr. Aisake Radu, CEO of DBSI. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainable energy practices, operational efficiency, and long-term cost management in the face of ongoing global fuel price pressures.

SATSOL AND DEVELOPMENT BANK OF SOLOMON ISLANDS STRENGTHEN LONG-STANDING PARTNERSHIP WITH ENHANCED FIVE-YEAR ICT SERVICES AGREEMENT.

SATSOL and the Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) have formalized an enhanced
five-year ICT services agreement, further strengthening their long-standing partnership and
shared commitment to reliable, high-performance digital infrastructure.
Signed on 29 May 2026 at the DBSI Head Office in Honiara, the agreement ensures SATSOL will
continue supporting DBSI’s critical banking operations through improved connectivity,
strengthened business continuity solutions, and enhanced disaster recovery capabilities. These
upgrades are designed to support uninterrupted services and align with DBSI’s ongoing digital
transformation strategy.
DBSI Chief Executive Officer, Aisake Radu, welcomed the strengthened partnership and
highlighted the importance of robust ICT systems in modern banking.
“This is an important step in strengthening the sustainability, resilience, and continuity of our
business operations. The establishment of a dedicated disaster recovery site enhances our
ability to maintain uninterrupted services and reflects our commitment to operational
excellence and long-term growth,” Mr. Radu said.
He further noted that continuous investment in technology is essential for efficiency,
competitiveness, and improved customer service.
Mr. Radu also acknowledged SATSOL’s ongoing support, describing the partnership as a
strategic investment in resilience, efficiency, and sustainable growth.
SATSOL Chief Executive Officer, Pawel Smalinski, said the agreement reflects the strong trust
and collaboration between the two organizations and a continued focus on service
improvement.
“We are proud of the trust DBSI has placed in SATSOL. This agreement builds on our long
standing relationship and enables us to further enhance the services we provide while
supporting DBSI’s operational requirements,'' Mr Smalinski said.
He added that SATSOL remains committed to investing in network infrastructure, monitoring
systems, and technical capability to ensure reliable and resilient service delivery.
The renewed agreement reflects both organizations’ commitment to leveraging technology to
improve service delivery, strengthen operational resilience, and support sustainable growth in
the Solomon Islands.

Strengthening Integrity Through Ethics Training

As part of DBSI’s Strategic Plan on staff capacity building, Management and Staff recently participated in a one-day training on Professional Ethics & Ethical Decision Making, facilitated by the Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA).

The program was delivered in two sessions, with Group One attending on Friday, 24th April, and Group Two on Monday, 27th April. For some participants, the training introduced new perspectives, while for others it served as a valuable refresher.
Throughout the sessions, attendees explored the critical interplay between ethics, morals, and foundational principles. The training provided a practical framework for understanding human actions, conduct, and decision-making, equipping staff with tools to apply ethical principles in their professional roles.

This initiative underscores DBSI’s commitment to fostering institutional integrity, accountability, and a culture of ethical practice across all levels of the organization. By investing in professional development, DBSI continues to strengthen its foundation for sustainable growth and community trust.
