The WMU Maritime Affairs Conference 2026 has opened in Malmö, focusing on decarbonization, digitalization and Arctic navigation.

IPANDI Regional Manager Mohamad Renno attended the opening and met World Maritime University President Professor Maximo Q. Mejia Jr.

Following an opening discussion on practical decarbonization policy, the programme will continue with digitalization and Arctic navigation.

IPANDI appreciates WMU’s efforts to advance global maritime education and knowledge-sharing.

Strengthening P&I insurance cooperation in Vietnam 🇻🇳⚓

IPANDI CEO Amir H. Mosadeghi and Deputy CEO Emad Mosadeghi met with Nguyen My Thien, Country Head of WTW Vietnam, and Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of Marine Vietnam, to discuss extending the Club’s services across the Vietnamese maritime market.

They were joined by Captain Gabriel Petridis, Chairman of ARIES Energies and Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Piraeus. ARIES Energies and Vietnam Maritime Corporation established VIMC-ARIES, IPANDI’s representative in Vietnam.

The meeting also strengthened IPANDI’s cooperation with WTW in Vietnam and London.

On 10 August 1628, the Swedish warship Vasa set sail from Stockholm on her maiden voyage (first journey). Around 20 minutes and 1,300 metres later, she sank.

Built as a symbol of Swedish naval power, Vasa carried 64 cannon and extraordinary ornamentation, but suffered from dangerously poor stability. Even more strikingly, warning signs had appeared before departure: a stability test was reportedly stopped after just three runs when the ship rolled alarmingly.

Nearly four centuries later, Vasa remains a powerful maritime lesson: technical ambition must always be matched by seaworthiness, sound judgement and respect for risk.

Pride without prudence can sink even the greatest.

In reality, a P&I Club exists to protect shipowners against many of the liabilities that come with operating a vessel, from collisions and cargo claims to crew-related responsibilities and pollution incidents.
