NZDUSD Analysis
“The shift in bias by the RBNZ is certainly playing a key role in lifting volatility in NZD/USD. NZD/USD dropped close to 1.0% today on the back of the employment data, which was weaker than expected.”

“While the data was disappointing it was by no means disastrous and the reaction does highlight the fact that large speculative positions have been in place, perhaps more against the Australian dollar than the US dollar given the monetary divergence was perceived clearer versus RBA expectations than versus Fed expectations.”

“The unemployment rate remaining unchanged at 5.8% rather than declining to 5.5% as expected was one surprise in the data but the 0.2% hourly earnings gain at a time when the RBNZ is expressing concern over low inflation becoming entrenched in wage and price setting behaviour was the key data that triggered the reaction in the market. The 0.2% gain in Q1 earnings was the weakest since the 0.4% drop recorded in Q4 2012.”

“With the RBNZ wishing to see NZD depreciation, weak earnings data would provide the central bank with the perfect justification to act to ensure NZD weakness is maintained.”

EUR/USD Wave analysis
Buy the pair from correction above the level of 1.1042 with the target of 1.14 - 1.15.
The formation of the third wave of the senior level is still ongoing on the four-hour chart frame. Locally it seems that the formation of the third wave of the junior level (iii) is nearing completion. If this assumption is correct, it makes sense to expect local correction as the wave (iv) in the nearest future and, after its completion the rise in the pair to 1.14 – 1.15. Critical level for this scenario is 1.1042. Breakdown of this level will provoke the decline in the pair to 1.08 – 1.07.

India's forex reserves touch record high at $344.6 billion

MUMBAI: India's foreign exchange reserves rose $ 1.4 bn in the week ended April 24 to touch $344.6 bn, creating a new record. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has added close to $ 25 bn in the reserves kitty since January as overseas investors poured in dollars in the local debt and equities market on the hope of economic revival.

The rise in foreign exchange reserves was mainly on account of a $ 1.4 bn jump in the foreign currency assets which stood at $ 320 bn.

Making profit while not following your trading rules could be the most expensive profit you ever made because it reinforces you to not follow your rules next time. It is so tempting to not follow your rules. This can cause more damage to your account than any other error you can make. (Emotion free trading)

Swiss Franc

Three months after dropping the bomb and removing the floor under 1.20, the Swiss National Bank takes measures to try to limit the strengthening of the franc.

The decision to tighten the negative deposit rates, already tightened back in January, has sent EUR/CHF higher.

The Bank has announced that less exemptions will be available from May 1st: these include public entities and some pension funds. There are still some governmental institutions that are exempt.

EUR/CHF was losing some ground in recent weeks, as investors were not too deterred from the negative interest rates and the occasional interventions by the SNB.

This move sent the cross above 1.03, reaching a high of 1.0366, but this isn’t too strong: at the time of writing, we are back to 1.0330.

And this time, the impact on EUR/USD is limited. The major pair is actually sliding as concerns about Greece join some dollar strength. The Swiss impact is not huge this time.

Some good US data for Q1: the annualized level of existing home sales rose to 5.19 in March, significantly better than expected. This is also the best number in a year and a half. The previous figure was marginally revised to the upside: 4.89 million.

The US dollar is slightly stronger in the initial reaction.

The number of existing home sales was expected to reach 5.04 million (annualized) in March from 4.88 last month (before revisions). The majority of sales is of existing, second hand homes.

Towards the publication, EUR/USD traded around 1.0740, GBP/USD at 1.5040, USD/JPY around 119.70, AUD/USD around 0.7777, NZD/USD around the round 0.77 and USD/CAD at 1.2230. All currencies are now retreating against the greenback.

Earlier, the official House Price Index rose by 0.7% in February, as expected.

Data for Q1, including the spring month of March, has been quite disappointing so far. A few losing streaks in US data triggered sell-offs of the greenback. However, after many of these drops, we have seen a resurgence of the USD, as other currencies don’t offer better alternatives.

Later this week we will get new home sales, jobless claims and durable goods orders.

AUD RBA's Stevens: Would be uncomfortable if household debt rose further; he'll be surprised if Aussie doesn't go down some more.
