Hello, my name is Mohammad Awad. I am a mathematics teacher and I currently live in Gaza. I am writing this letter five months after the war. Five months were lived by me, my wife, my daughter Maryam, and my son Ahmed as if they were five years: with daily suffering in providing the most basic requirements for survival. Things like bread, drinking water, and lighting have become a daily challenge that I live with for more than 140 days. After I lost my home and my job, after all my hopes were shattered and all my dreams and plans were distorted.
From the first day, I left my home in the middle of the eastern Gaza Strip out of concern for the lives of my children and my wife. We were displaced from our home to UNRWA schools, and the health situation was very bad. Diseases and infections spread among children because the drinking water was contaminated and the schools are crowded with displaced people. My sons began to suffer from several severe symptoms, such as fever, diarrhea , and vomiting. My mother’s condition has deteriorated, as she already suffers from blood pressure and diabetes, and she suffered a stroke a while ago and has not yet recovered from it. Then we moved to an area that was no less bad, namely the areas of tents in the streets and empty plots. Where cold, rain, pollution and darkness.
With the approaching invasion of the city of Rafah, which houses one and a half million displaced people from all over the Gaza Strip, which will worsen conditions. And it makes it more disastrous. I appeal to you through this place to help me go out with my family of five members, my wife, my mother, my son Ahmed, my daughter Maryam, and me.
I appeal to you to help me in the immediate evacuation from the Gaza Strip in order to preserve the lives of my wife, children, and mother, and in order to provide them with appropriate care.
