266th Ordnance Company History
The 266th Ordnance Company was originally Battery A of the 28th Artillery
Battalion on or around 1965 with a unit strength of 80 Soldiers. In 1968, the 28th Artillery Battalion was deactivated and the 266th Ordnance Company was created in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico with a unit strength of 150 Soldiers. On June, 1970, the entire unit was sent to Redstone Arsenal, Alabam

a to reclassify on the new specialty. The Unit’s mission is to provide command, control, administration, planning and logistical support for modular ammunition platoons. On order, the 266th ordnance company, will mobilize and deploy to provide ammunition support to a corps size unit in a theater of operations. The Unit kept growing and reached a unit strength of 220 Soldiers in 1973. The Unit is characterized by the professionalism and dedication of its well prepared Soldiers. Due to these characteristics, the Unit has been called on to participate in many exercises in the Continental United States and overseas. On December 2003 the Unit was mobilized to support the Global War on Terrorism and was sent to Iraq. The Unit was mobilized as a whole, but divided in modules to accomplish different missions all over Iraq. Modular platoons were assigned to Forward Operating Bases in Nasiriyah, Taji, Balad, Mosul, and Fallujah. On February 2008, the unit was called upon, for the second time, to deploy to Iraq. This time, a detachment of 47 Soldiers was activated and assigned to Q-West Base Complex in Al Qayyarah, Iraq. The Detachment was responsible for the administration of the second largest Ammunition Supply Point in Iraq. During their tour of duty the Detachment was instrumental in coordinating an Ammunition Supply Point expansion project that resulted in a 200 percent increase in ammunition storage space and brought the Ammunition Supply Point into compliance with appropriate safety regulations. The 266th Ordnance Company has excelled in all peace time and war missions demonstrating that they are true warriors who always place the mission first and never except defeat.
