The Code of Corporate Governance (Code), require all listed companies to make appropriate arrangements to conduct orientation and training courses for their directors to acquaint them with their duties and responsibilities and enable them to effectively manage the affairs of listed companie
s on behalf of the shareholders. The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee of the Institute appreciating the needs of the professionals in wake of the mandatory requirement of Code made conscious efforts to obtain the necessary approval from the Securities & Exchange Commission in Pakistan (SECP) to provide opportunity for the professionals. After fulfilling the required criteria ICAP was granted the SECP approval in November 2012. ICAP launched the Directors Training Program (DTP) in Lahore in January 2013 after getting the approval from the Securities & Exchange Commission in Pakistan (SECP). ICAP DTP is a Pakistan specific course but aims to create familiarity with global principles of corporate governance. The four day certificate course is conducted in two sessions of two day each and covers the broader perspectives and principles of corporate governance, applicable laws, financial and strategic management, reporting and communications. The first session of the DTP was highly acclaimed with more than 33 participants from the listed companies attended the session. ICAP also held successfully the concluding session of the same batch and the first session of the DTP for a fresh batch in Lahore. The first session of DTP in Karachi is scheduled for 15th and 16th April 2013. There are also sessions scheduled for Islamabad and concluding sessions in Karachi and Lahore.. SECP’s drive to improve and reinforce the corporate governance is adding value to the businesses in Pakistan. Good corporate culture is considered as the back bone of economy, as it builds confidence of local and foreign investors in the economy and business environment of the country.
