Topline Weekly Review (Aug 28, 2026):

The KSE-100 Index closed the week on a broadly flat note, gaining a meagre 0.3%. The subdued performance can be attributed to a lack of fresh market triggers, with investors largely adopting a wait-and-see approach amid uncertainty surrounding the progress of U.S.-Iran peace talks.

Important development during the outgoing week was: Moody upgrading Pakistan’s rating by one notch to B3 from Caa1, with a stable outlook. The last time Pakistan held a B3 rating was in June 2022, bringing the rating to a 4-year high.

On flows end during the week, individuals, local companies and mutual funds were largely buyers in the market, as they net purchased equities worth $7.3mn, $2.8mn and $2.7mn, respectively as of yesterday`s close; whereas foreign corporate and banks were major sellers in the market, as they net sold equities worth $8.3mn and $1.9mn, respectively as of yesterday`s close.

Average daily traded volume and value during the week stood at 713mn shares and PKR35bn respectively.

Topline Market Review (Aug 28, 2026):

KSE 100 Index largely traded in positive zone during the trading session, as index gained to make an intraday high of 0.41% and finally settled at 177,697 level (up by 0.21%), this gain can be attributed to overall decline in oil prices amid signs of progress in Pakistan-mediated diplomacy involving Iran.

Top positive contribution to the index came from SYS, BOP, HBL, MEBL and ILP, as they cumulatively contributed 594 points to the index.

Traded value wise BOP (PKR.3.17bn), ATRL (PKR.1.62bn), CNERGY (PKR.1.31bn), PPL (PKR.923mn) and PSO (PKR.842mn) dominated the activity.

Traded volume and value for the day stood at 686mn shares and PKR.31bn respectively.

The international diesel crack averaged $65.03/b over the past two weeks and $55.60/b since July 2026, well above the new ceiling of $41.89/b, Research house Topline Securities said in its latest August market analysis report.

"We believe capping on margins on HSD may continue until normalcy returns," Asad Ali, research analyst at Topline Securities, said in an Aug. 20 report.
