Eye Sight Trust and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Sign MoU to Revive Spencer Eye Hospital
Karachi, Pakistan - Eye Sight Trust (EST) and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to restore and reactivate Spencer Eye Hospital as a center of excellence in eye care and a teaching hospital.
Established in 1940, Spencer Eye Hospital is one of the oldest dedicated ophthalmology institutions in the region. The revival aims to restore this heritage institution and renew its role in patient care and training.
Under the agreement, Eye Sight Trust will lead the renovation, upgrading, and operation of the hospital’s designated premises. The focus will be on providing free and subsidized outpatient services, emergency care, surgical interventions, and allied diagnostics to deserving patients, especially from underserved communities.
Founded in 2005, Eye Sight Trust has a proven track record of delivering high-volume cataract surgeries, community outreach programs, and affordable eye care services to economically disadvantaged populations.
The Spencer Eye Hospital project will not only expand access to quality eye care for residents of Lyari, Saddar, Old City, and surrounding areas, but also help develop the hospital as a teaching and training facility, in collaboration with recognized academic and healthcare institutions.
